Description
W1K/Mijas,
N PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER WASHINGTON weise@ @me eine.
To ally whom 'it may concern:` i
Be itl known that I, CHARLES RSTEv-ENS, of Faya etteville, in the'county ot' Onondaga and St-ateof New 1 York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in TrncefBuckles ,r and I do hereby declare thatthe `following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable those skilled `in the art to make `andiuse the saine, reference being had to theac'corn-` panyingdrawing forming part `of this specification, in a which-r v Figure vl is a face View of my improved buckle. Figure 2 is aside' view; and Figure 3 is a cent-ral longitudinal section. Figures 4 and 5 are detail views. Similalletters of refirence'ihdioate like the scveralgures. In the accompanying drawingparts` in A theiing, i .i B is the-'han'icstngg and f C is the buckle-frame;
orloop, aand has, on its rear or inner side, two crossi `bars, d, iig. 3, which are connected with the operation of the-tongue'. o v
The tongue, e, is mounted en` a cam-shaped plate, E, which is` hung on the cross-bar 1), in such manner as to swing freely thereon, and the said cani plate 'E rear end. o
. The object of'this tail-piece' is to. prevent the tongue i e E from swingingawayfrom the tug when the tongue is withdrawn, and tocause the tongue to be self-acting in engaging with the .holes inlthe tug, and one of the tained. y i f By drawing the trace or tugA forward through the buckle the cam E revolves or swings, and the tongue l c is thown ont of the tug, without any direct attention from the operator; but this withdrawal is resisted sniiiciently by the swinging tail-`piece, so that the tongue e readily engages with `the first hole that it meets, when thestrap is drawn backward.
Thclbuckle-frame is made with the ordinary bridge i has a swinging tail-piece, F, which is hinged 4to its requirements of a good i trace-buckle is thereby ob-` cHAnLEs STEVENs or `rare T'.rni'fiLL'E,'New Youn.
Letters Paten-t No. 105,50),datezl July 19, 1870.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
. lli Iori.
When the tongue eis withdrawn thetail-'piece F s pressed against the tug, midway between the bridge c and loop m., where the tug is unsupportedon the outside, and this pressure bends the tug slightly outward,
so that au elasticl pressure is obtained for closing the Ehammerj and the tail-piece F is also hinged to the cam-plate -iu like manner, by bending its thin, dat prov jeotion j, fig. 5, around a bar, h, cast on the rear end of the cam-plate. The tail-piece -F is allowed a certain degree of play, so that the tongue 'e can be with drawn ,an d `the said tail not project inward, and be in the way when the buckle is closed; but this play is limited in onei direction by the cross-bar (l, fig. 3, and in the o other direotionby the shoulders ic k, iig. 4.
By these means I obtain abnckle with aself-acting tongue, and which also holds the tug in aseeure manner, and without liability ot' injury, as ordiuaril y.
Having thus described my invention,
What Iclairn as new, and desire to secure by Letvters Patent, 'isf-l The swingingcarnrplate E e, haring a renrprojeetionor tail-pieceF hingedorjointed thereto, in connection with the buckle-frame C c, substantially as and for the purpose herein specified.
The above specification ot' my invention signed b`y me this 27th day of September, 1869.
