Description

P. SAVILLE.
REAMER ATTACHMENT FOR DIE STOCKS.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 17, 1912.

Old. W. I 4' I I 0% A zsflzz'orney FRANCIS SAVILLE, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BEAMER ATTACHMENT FOR DIE-STOCKS.
A Specification of Iietters Patent.
Patented Mar. 4, 1913.
Application filed May 17, 1912. Serial No. 697,854.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANCIS SAVILLE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reamer Attachments for Die-Stocks, of which the following is a specification.
'My invention relates to improvements in reamer attachments for pipe-threading die stocks, and has for its ob ect the production of a device of this character which will be of improved construction and which will be highly efficient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view, my invention consists in the combination and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which v Figure 1 is a perspective view' of a reamer attachment embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a section taken on substantially line 00 m of Fig. 2.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawing, comprises a base plate 1 which is adapted to be arranged upon the front side of a conventional die stock, a circular opening 2 provided centrally in the plate 1 being adapted to register with the pipe opening in the die stock, as will be readily understood. The plate 1 is formed at one side with a perforation 3 and at its opposite side with a slot 4, said perforation and slot afiording means for fastening the device upon the die stock, the slot 4 permitting of the device being swung to one side, when the nut or other fastening device which cooperates with the corresponding side of the plate 1 is retracted, for gaining ready access to the interior of the die stock.
Formed integral with and projecting from the front side of the plate 1 are supporting arms 5 at the outer ends of which is supported a tubular member arranged coaxial with the opening 2. Said tubular member is formed of two separate sections 6 and 7 which are rigidly connected and held in spaced relation by means of diametric yokes 8. Slidably mounted in said tubular member is the shank 9 of the reamer 10 which is conical in form, as shown, said shank being circular in form corresponding with the form of the coaxial openings in the sections 6 and 7 Provided in the section 7 are inwardly projecting pins 11 which engage a longitudinally extending groove 12 provided in one side of theshank 9, this construction serving to lock' said shank against relative rotary movement but permitting of free vertical movement thereof. Arranged in the space intervening the members 6 and 7 is a nut 13 which is threaded upon the shank 9. iThe arrangement is such, as will be observed, that longitudinal adjustment of said shank in the members 6 and 7 and hence corresponding adjustment of the reamer 10 to adjust the position thereof relative to the die stock cooperating with the reamer or to the pipe end positioned in 75 said diestock, may be effected by rotating the nut 13.
By providing a conventional die stock with a reamer attachment of the construction set forth, it will be seen that the threading of a pipe and the removal of the bur, which is formed at the end of a severed pipe, will be secured in one operation;
The device is simple and economical in construction and the same is so designed as to be capable of ready and expeditious adjustmentg While I have illustrated and described the preferred form ofconstruction for carrying my invention into efiect, thisis capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described myinvention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A reamer attachment for pipe threading die stockscomprising a plate having a central opening therethrough; a plurality of converging arms on said plate; a tubular member comprising two sections spaced apart by means of" yoke arms, such tubular member being secured in axial alinement with said opening in said plate by means of Stud converging arms; a reamer shaft having a spline Way extending longitudinally In testimony whereof I have signed my thereof'and slidably mounted in said tubuname to this specification in the presence of lar member; pins in said tubular member two subscribing Witnesses.
engaging said spline Way in said reamer FRANCIS SAVILLE. 5 shaft; and aunt threaded on said reamer Witnesses:
shaft between the two sections of said tubu- JOSHUA R. H. PoTTs,
