The invention relates to improvements in knee pads for cotton pickers, etc.

The-object of the present invention is 'to improve the construction of knee. pads, and

Knee-Pad nfor Cotton-Pickers, &c., of which j to provide a siinple,durable and etlicient knee pad, designed for cotton pickers and'others, and adapted to shield the knees ofa cotton picker, orother person from injury and protect the clothing from wear.

The U-shaped metalli."y bars orpieces are adapted to prevent the sides of the pad from bending down and straightening out. when pressure is applied to the same. and the side portions of the front metallic bar or member extend between the side Walls and attaching strips 6 and flaps 7 of vthe front Wall.

The pad is secured tothe leg ot the wearer by means ot' upper and lower straps 15".. constructed of leather` or other .suitable material, and'secured tothe outer faces of the side Walls of the body rof the pad b v rivets, or other suitable fastening means and provided with buckles 14.' The t'ront wall 3 .is also equipped with a strap 15 preferably constructed of elastic webbing or other suitable materlal and secured at one end to the outer face of the front wall and provided at the other end with a wire loop 16, having a Contracted extension 17 adapted to grip the fabric of the troi'isers and overalls similar to the loop of an ordinary garment supporter'. The strap of the front wall assists in supporting the pad and maintaining the same in proper position on the leg ot the wearer.

The pad is' equipped with an interiorly arranged easing` 18 ot' soft flexible material, such as oil Cloth, t'nin leather, or the like, and receiving and protecting a tubular pneumatic cushion 19. The interiorly arranged easinfr, which is substantially rectangular to conform to the configuration of the bottom portion of the body of the pad, stitched at the iront and side edges and is provided at the rear'edges with eyelets 20, receiving alaee 2l for detaehably closing the rear end ot' the casing to aliord acc-ess to the pneumatic eushion. The tubular pneumatic cushion', which is circular in cross section. extends around the front, haelt and sides of the body, and it provided at the lront with a valve '22, extending through an aperture 213 in the t'ront wall of the body near the bottom thereof. The valve is desie'ned to be oii the ordinary construction and die pneumatie eushion is adapted to be inlated with an ordinary air pump. The trent wall is also provided at opposite sides 'below the plane ot' the aperture 23 and adjare It t'o-the bottom with openings 2-l,through which extendsa strap 25 secured to the easing` at opposite sides thereof and provided with a buckle 2G, or other suitable fastening means tor detarhably holding the flexible easing' in position within the body ot the pad.' The top and bottoni ot the flexible easing are interiorly connected by stitching 27, or other suitable means, and the top wall is pre't't-:rably provided with a central eireular piece 2S, stiteued or otherwise secured at its periphery to the top` `all over an opening,` 29 in the saine and forming a eentral depression within the space inelosed by the. inflatable Cushion.

A knee pad'ineluding a blank ol heavy liexible material folded ,longitudinally to form opposite side walls and tifansversely to provide a continuousfront wall, the lat'- t-er being provided at its terminals with projecting portions overlapping the side walls and secured to the saine, and approximately U-shaped metallic pieces extending across the bottom of the pad andl up the side walls and securedv to the latter and adapted to prevent the same from bending ontward and downward.

3. A knee pad including a body portion comprising` a bottom, side walls and a front wall having' opposite openings, and an aperture lo :ated above the said openings, a .tle\ible easing arranged within the body and conforming to the configuration of the same and provided at theI front with attaching means extendingr through the said openings and secured exteriorly of the front Wall, and a tubular pneumatic cushion arranged within the Flexible easing and provided with a valve extending through the said aperture.

4. A. knee pad including a body oonstrueted of heavy flexible material and Colnposed of a bot-tom, side walls, and a front wall, a easing arranged within the body and constructed ot' thin flexible material, the top of the easing having a central depression and secured to the bottom of the casing, and a tubular pneumatic cushion arranged with- 'in the using and extending around the central depressed portion of the said casino.
