CARBON- HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedMar. 4, 1913.
Application filed August-'19, 911. Serial No. 645,042.
' I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that L'OBLANDQ S. GAUoH,
. a citizen of the United States of America,
residing at Shelby, in the county o-fRiohland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carbon-Holders, of which the following is a specification. v
My invent-ion relates to carbon holders and is especially adapted to be used in connection with manifold order or sales books.
The objects of my invention are to provide a carbon holder that will secure the carbon sheet rigidly in place with relation to the sales or order book; to prevent sagging of the holder and-the tendency of either part to spring away from each other; to provide a carbon holder that can be attached to the ordinary spring clip that is used for holding the pad securely to'the cover. These and other objects are attained by the mecha nism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sales or order book embodying my invention, showing the usual cover and spring clips applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a side view in perspective, of my carbon holder, showing the parts open preparatory to inserting the carbon sheet between the clamping parts. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional end view, showing both of the parts closed with the carbon sheet interposed between them.
In the drawings reference numeral 1 rep resents a cover, 2 an order or sales book mounted upon the cover, and 3 and 4 spring clips which yieldingly press down upon the order or. sales book, tlrereby keeping the leaves of the manifold order or salesf-book from becoming disarranged in any manner. The carbon holder comprisesa part of the spring clip 4 which will be described hereinafter. The spring clips are fastened to' the cover in any well-known manner, it being necessary only to attach them so as to provide for downward pressure or tension against the order or sales book.
The above described elements do not form any part of my invention. 'I will now describe my carbon holder, which is applied to and used in combination with the above described elements.
Reference numeral 5 designates a channel bar, having a portion of the upstanding flanges adjacent to and at its extremities cut away to the bottom 6, leaving fiatportions 7 and 8. Slots 9 and 9 are provided in the fiat portion 7 and 8 and the margin on each side of the slot is turned to form eyes 10, 11. 12' and 13. A-clamping bar 14 .havingrounding side portions 15 and 16 15 provided to fit the flanges l7 and 18 of the channel bar and is hinged upon the free end 19 of the spring clip 4, between the eyes 12 and 13 of the channel bar. One end of the channel bar is also carried by the free end 19 of the clip 4. The opposite end of the channel bar is carried by the free end 21 of the .clip 4. One end of the clamping bar l i, is provided with a hook 20. Proect-1ons 222222 are pressed from and extend up from the bottom 6 of the channel bar. A groove or recess 23 is :formed upon the under surface of the clamping bar, alining with the projections 22--2222. l
The carbon sheet is represented by the letter A.
In the operation of my carbon holder the carbon sheet A is interposed between the channel bar 5 and clamping bar 14, as
shown clearly in Fig; 3. The clamping bar is then pressed downward and the hook 20,
on its innerside, engages with the periphery of the free end 21 of the spring clip 4, thereby yieldingly holding the channel and clamping bar 1n close contact with the carbon sheet interposed between them. The projections 22-22 22 press the portion of the carbon sheet, lying over it, into the recess or groove 23, and at. the-same time the rounding edges 15 and 16 of the clamping bar 14 press the carbon sheet'against the flanges 17 and 18, securely holding the carbon sheet in place and preventing the tearing of or disarrangement of same.
What Iclaim is 1. A carbon sheet. holder for books and the like comprising a channel-bar, a clam ing bar having upturned sides hinged to said channel bar and adapted to fit within the flanges of the channel bar to securely retain a carbon sheet between them, and means to liongect the channel bar to the back of the i 2. A carbon sheet holder for books and the like comprising a channel bar having a se ries of projections raised from the bottom, a clamping bar hinged to said channel bar and provided with a longitudinal groove that alines with said series of projections,
' 3. A carbon sheet holder for books and the like comprising-a channel bar, a clampin bar hin ed to said channel bar and adapte to fit wlthin the flanges thereof, and means toyieldingly connect said channel bar to the back of the book, as andffor the purpose described.
4. A carbon sheet holder for manifold order or sales books comprising a channel bar with flat end'portions, eyes formed on said flat portions, a yielding member con nected to the back of the book and fitted to said eyes, a clamping bar hinged to said channel bar and provided with means on its free end to engage said yielding member, substantially as and for the purpose described.
55A carbonsheet holder for books and the like comprising 'achannel bar provided with together, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature I in. presence of two witnesses. 5 I
