Speaieation of Lettereletent.' Elementari lilla?. Application filed December 18, 1912. SeiehNo. 737,041.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUKSLEY W. ABBOTT, a citizen of the `United States of America, county of Dele-V ware and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallie Railway-Ties, of which the following is' a specification.
This invention relates to metallic railway ties, and its object is to provide an improved device of this character constructed in such manner that while it may be formed entirely of metal, it will not be o en to the objection that it yielding.
Onev of the principal objections to seine ofV the metallic and concrete ties heretofore.de`
is undulyl rigi and un-A vised is that they have presented' too un-- Iyielding a road hed and their use has caused' A still further object is the provisionfof improved means for securing'A the reiisfupon theties. y
Further objects andadventeges cui' the i1 1-y ventionwill he set forth inlthe tieteiled (ic-1 'scription which new follows.
ln the accompanying draiifin Figure ll is perspective -view' of a. mete ictie coni structed in accordancewith the invention. Fig. 2 is e transverse sectional view there through, and Fig. 3 is e partial longitudinel sectional View therethrough.

The rails comparatively .may
easily handled and the clips com ljparts l? and 18 provide means n i. securing the rails in' position;- Itis a further object of the invention to provide a 'tie of the character above setforth constructed in such manner that it` may be very economically menufacturei.'

Slit-s 15 are formed through these piene surfaces for the reception-of the legs 1T of U- shaped clips. The vlooriy portion 18 of these clips lies beneath the tops of the chairs enel the legs 17 extend through slots l5. ritter the rails have been: placed in -position, these legs are bezit at lif 'to engage the base iang'e ofthe rail ina manner that 'will he, reetliiy understood.Vv f l v The struct-nre herein shown ariel descriheci he very economicallymanufactured and by: te
e employment thereof, tracks may-he laid 'with great rapidity. This structure renders the 'ties comparativeiyl light anti' rising the or rapidly rifhe how for* mation of the portions 1 0 and l2 causes the duced b Y the )essere of trains atr heh i e e speed, and this not only reduces noise :mtl wear andl tear upon the rolling stench', entf it' prevents loosening up ci eheinitsA pietes and the rails to ether.

A
claim is y A metallic railway tie comprising with yielding rnetailic chairs, comprising a top spaced from and, lying shove said het tom, base portions lying between saievverti-` cal side Walls 'and bowed portions connect. ing said base portions and said top, sait?,
