Description

`Massachusetts, have invented a new and use- UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE..
HARRIET GODFREYEMERY AND MARGARET GATE FULLER, OF BOSTON,
' MASSACHUSETTS.
llvlenovetviizmr :N COLLARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,414?, dated July 19, 1870.
To all whom t may concern: l l Beit known that` we, HARRIET GODERE'Y EMERY and MARGARET GATE-FULLER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of ful Improvement in C loth and Paper Collars; and we do hereby declare that the following is afull and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying'drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. l l
` This invention consists of a collar constructed of two parts of similar shape, one of which forms the collar proper, and the other ayoke, which is intended to slip under the outer garment for the purpose of securing the Whole in place. The parts being similar in shape, the outer part, used as a collar, when soiled maybe placed inside to serve as the yoke, while the other takes its place upon the outside.
y In the drawing a perspective view of our improved collar is shown.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we now proceed to describefully the construction of the same.
d and represent the 'parts of the collar. l
The part'd is intended to be slipped under the outer garment, for the purpose ot' securing the Vwhole in place. When the part e .becomes soiled, the position of the parts may be reversed, and the part d serve asa collar, while the` part e is employed to retain the whole in place. By means ot' this construction a cheap collar is produced, which is not only capable of double use, but which will also securely and smoothly retain its place though secured by a single button.
Wedo not claim, broadly, the idea of securing collars in place by means of a strip projecting beneath the outer garment, for this we know to be old; but,
Having thus fully described our invention, whatwe claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl The duplex collar d e, when constructed as described, for the purpose set'i'orth.
This'speciticat-ion signed and witnessed this 28th day ot' February, 1870.
