fuse puller especially adapted for use for removing and installing electric code fuses, the object of the invention being to provide an improved tool of this character which may be used without danger of an electric shockto the user,-the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described .and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of a fuse puller constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line a--a of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view on the plane indicated by the line bb of Fig. 1.
In accordance with my invention, I provide a handle 1 which is made of wood or other suitable insulating material and is of a form and shape adapting it to be held in the alm of the hand. To one side of the ham le at the center thereof is secured a tubular arm 2, the tubular arm being preferably made of metal. This tubular arm is provlded in one side with a slot 3 and is also provided near its outer end with slots 4 on opposite sides. The tubular arm is covered by an insulating sleeve or casing 5 which is made offiber or other suitable 1nsulating material and has a slot in one side corresponding with the slot 3.
A air of fuse gripping jaws 6 are provided with crossed lever arms 7 which are pivotally connected together and are also pivotally mounted in the outer end of the tubular'arm 2 by a pivot pin 8. An operating rod 9 is arran ed and movable longitudinally in the tu ular arm 2 andhas a finger piece 10 which projects at right angles therefrom at its inner end, operates in the slot 3 and extends to one side of the tubular arm. This finger piece is here shown inte ral with the operating rod and 1s prefirably so constructed. A finger piece s covered by atubular insulating sleeve or casing 11 which may be made of fiber arranged for longitudinal movement of the tubular arm 2'and bears against and is secured to the inner end of t e operatin rod 9. A coiled extensile s ring 16 is p aced in the inner end of the tu ular'arm, one end of the said sprin bearing against the pluner 15 and the ot er end bearing against the andle 1."- This spring exerts its tension to normally move the rod .9 outwardly so as to cause the rod through the instrumentality of the links 4 and lever arm 7 to open the fuse gripping jaws and hold said aws in open position. In order to close the jaws, so as to grip a fuse between them, the fin er p ece 10 together with the rod 9 is pul ed rearwardly toward the handle 1 by the user, thereby overcoming the tension of the spring 16 and causing the rod 9 and the links 4 together with the lever arm 7 to close the grip ping jaws as will be understood.
It will be noted thatthe tubular arm of the handle and the finger iece of the operating rod are thoroughly Insulated so that there 1s no danger of an electric shock to the user of the implement.
While I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departing from the spirit of my invention andwithin the scope of the appended claims.
I claim 1. The herein described fuse pullercomprising an insulating handle, an insulating tubular arm projecting from the handle and having a longitudinal slot in one side, a pair of fuse gripping jaws arranged at the outer end of the tubular arm and having crossed levers pivotally mounted therein, an operating rod arranged for longitudinal movement in the tubular arm, and aving aninsulated finger piece projecting from one side and movable in the slot in said tubular arm, and links connecting said operating rod and said crossed levers. t
2. The herein described fuse puller comprising an insulating handle, an insulating tubular arm projectin from the handle and having a longitudina slot in one side, a
pair of fuse gripping jaws arranged at the the operating rod outwardly and 'cause' the 10;
outer end of the tubular arm and having gripping jaws to open.
crossed levers pivotally mounted therein, In testimony whereof I aflix my signature an operating til'lodt algrzinged for lgngitudinal in presence of two Witnesses. movemeri in e u u ar arm an havin an insulated finger, piece projedting from one PERCY DBARAGER' side and movable in the slot in said tubular Witnesses: arm, links connecting said operating rod and MYRON O. BRAY, said crossed levers, and a spring to move ADA M. WHIIMORE.
