Be it known that I, JACOB FELBEL, citizen of theUnited States, and resident of the borough of Manhattan, city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Type-Writing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
`This invention relates to improvements in typewriting machines which contain pivoted typebars. It is especially intended for use in front-strike machines. Its object is to i `improve the construction of the pivotal connections between the typebars and their hangers or supprts, and'the means for securing typebar hangers to their supporting The invention consists of the various features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly de- Afined in the appended claims.

Although this invention is applicable to typewriting machines of different styles, 'its utilityis greatest in` front-strike machines containing typebars pivoted to segmentally arranged hangers. It lessens the tendency of pivoted typebars to work loose in consequence of wear on their bearings and of insecurely fastened hangers. Especially in front-strike machines lof the style' above mentionedv is this tendency troublesome. It so affects the typebars next to' and near the ends of the segment 'that the alinement of the writing is liable to be rendered imperspcmeauoxi f :Letters Patent." Patented Feb. 18, 1913. The weight of a typebar which is next to v.one end of the segment, or between' one vend and the middle of the segment, subjects the pivotal bearings to wearing pressure at the front of the bearing abovethe bar and atthe back of the bearing below the bar. Hence as the bearings wear, the type of the barsag so that they do not reach the true printing point when the typebar is actuated, and whatever the wear may be it impairs the action of the typebar more than the same amount of wear impairs the action of a bar at the middle :of the segment where the wear on the bearings of a lbar is mainly on one side only of its pivotal axis. Typebar bearings such as form part of the invention herein described are especiallyI t for use in front-strike machines of the style mentioned above, because theyv largely, if not wholly, remedy the evils which result from unevenness and other differences in the wearof the common pivotal typebar bearings, and which affect the alinement of the writing, the touch' of the keys, and the operation of other parts v of the mechanism.
