When the shell members are in place the base of the bracket is securely held in place in the recesses 61 and G2 by said shell members and is Jfurther held rigid by engagement of the wings 57 with the insulating block.
The operation is as follows: A suitable chain (not shown) will usually be attached to the outer end of the lever 54 and will depend therefrom. When this chain is pulled the lever 54 is swung outwardly, carryin with it the slide 47 with its rack 48 an rotating the pinion42. Rotation of thel pinion 42 causes, through the engagement of the lugs 43 with the notches 41 in the disk 40, a partial rotation of the shaft 32,
thereby turning the disk 3G to make or break the circuit. through the spring plates 28 and 29. When th chain is released the spring 44 will turn the pinion 42 buckwardly, thereby returningr the slide'47 and lever 54 to their original position. At this time however the ratchet 36 is held against rotation by the spring plates 28 and 29, so that the pinion 42 turns idly over the disk 40 without rotating the same. v
Asshown in Fig. 1 the socket is arranged to support a lamp in the ulnight position. In Fig. 6 the socket is shown inverted or in a position to support a dependingr lamp.
