.tication My invention relates to improvements in wash tubs, the object of the invention being to provide a pair of wash tubs of improved construction with improved mount-ing` there for, which permits the tubs to be folded together and inclosed within a box-like courl partaient, which will be ornamental in appearance, which will occupy but` relatlvely small space. and which may be readily moved from place to place-where the tubs are desired for use.
A further object to provide an improved construction of folding tubs which mav be readily manipulated by anyone ot average strength, as the tubs will be coniparativcly light, and their` movement readily' Il accomplished and which will be strong` and durable in construction and etliciently perform the functions for which they are intended.
"'viith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will bo 1uore fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
ln the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a perspective view showing my improvements with the tubs inclosed in their folding casing. Fig. 2. is a view in elevation of the tubs showing them in operative position and illustrating the casing partly broken away. Fig. 3, is a view in longitudinal section on an enlarged scale showing the tubs in the position illustrated in Fig. Q Figs. 4, and 5. are'end views of the construction illustrated in Fig. 2. Fig. 6, is a viewv in elevation, shown one tub folded down upon the other. Fig; 7, is a view in elevation showing both tubs swung down upon the platform or support ready to be incased, and 8, is a view in section illustrating the cover.
My improved wash tubs are supported upon a` hase 1 mounted to roll on. casters 2 having a back plate 3 rigidly secured to the hase by brackets 1. To this back plate ends 5 are by hinges t? and front '2?' are by hinges 8 with Specification of Letters Patent.
1912. Serial No. 702,785,
ends These front doors are provided with a catch 9 to hold them in closed position, and the upper end of the casing G thus formed is closed by a top 10. This top 10 comprises two plates secured together by hinges 11 and connected to the back 3 by hinges 1'2. rlhese hinges l1 and 412 permit the top 10 to be folded together and allowed to rest behind the back 3 when the tubs are in use. The doors 7, 7, and the ends 5 are swung out of the way so as to permit ready access to my improved tubs 13 and 11i which will now be described.
An upright 15 is secured to base 1, and at its upper end provides rotary mounting for one end of a shaft 16, the other end of said.
shaft supported in a bearing 17 on hack 3. This shaft 16 is connected by chains 18 with the bottom of the tub 13,- so that by turning the shaft, one end of the tub 13 may be raised and lowered. The shaft 16 projects through guide bars 19 secured to the end of the tub 13, and a block Q0 is fixed to shaft 16 between these guides 19,'and prevents any moiement of the tub longitudinally of the sha t.
A toothed wheel 21 is secured on the shaft 16, and is engaged by a pivoteddog- 2Q. A crank handle 23 is provided on the'shaft to turn the same, and this dog 22 will lock the shaft at any position of adjustment. The opposite end of tub 13 at its bottom, is con* nected by hinges 24e with plates 25. These plates Q5 have slots QG therein to receive bolts 27, and wing nuts QS serve to secure legs Q9 at. various vertical adjustments. These legs Q9 rest upon base 1, and together with the chains 18. serve to hold the tub 13 in operative position. A relatively long hook is connected to the bottom of the tub 13, and engages an eye 31 on plate to prevent any accidental hinged movement of plate 25.
Tub 14 is connected at one end at its upper edge with tub 13 by hinges 3Q, and the free end of this tulo 1-l is supported by a plate 25 Patented Feb.. 18,1913? ,and legs 29, precisely like the structure supin moving them to operative position.
