WATER-REGULATOR AND ALARM The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Mya-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, WlLLIAM WYATT, of Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, har-'einvented ra new and improved Water-Regulator and Alarm for Steam-Boilers; and I'do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the a0- companying drawing forming part of this specification, in which A Figure l represents aside view, partly in section, `of my improved water-regulator. 1 A
Figure 2 is an inverted horizontal section of the same, taken on the line -x x, fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. v
The object of' this invent-ion is to construct an at.
etaclnnent to steam-boilers, whereby the' operation ot' the feed-pumps will be so vregulated as to keep the water in the boiler at the required height; also, to connect with a regulator of this nature an alarm, which will only be worked when the water is below the safety-level. j
The invention consists, chiefly, in the combination of a float with a bell-crank and sliding sp1-ing valve, by means of which the supply of steam to the pump is regulated. A
The invention' consists, also, in the further con1bination therewith of another sliding spring valve and ad? j ustable knob for working the same, for the purpose of working the alarm. v
A, in the drawing, represents the steam-pipe which leads from the boiler to the feeding apparatus,
The end of this 'pipe 4in the boiler B is closed by a sliding valve, G,- which is held closed by aspring, D.
a, in fig. 2, represents the seat of the valve D.
To an ear, l), that projects from the pipe A, is pivoted a'bell-crank, E, which sustains at the end of its long horizont-al arm, c, a pending float, I, of suitable kind.
This float is upheld by the water in the boiler. If the waterfalls below the requisite level, the oat will sink, and will thereby swing the bell-crank, so that theshort arm (l of the same willstrike the valve O and pushv the same open. The supply of steam to the -feed-pump is thereby augmented, to provide for a larger supply of' water t0 the boiler.
The level of the water in the boiler is regulated by uieans of the oat, which is secured to a screw-shank, g, that caf'n be set higher or lower Vin the arm c.
G is the pipe which leads from the boiler to .the alarm-whistle. 1 f
It is provided with and closed'by a valve,H, which is held against its seat e by a spring, f. The valve H is\opened to blow the alarm by means of the arm ll, which is provided with an adjustable. knob or screw, h, to blow the alarm only when the water in the boiler is below the safety-level. Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure byl -Letters Patenty 1. The float F and bell-crank E, arranged in combination with the 'sliding spring valve O, and steampipe A, as set forth.
2. The alarm-valve H and adj nstable knob or screw h, in combination with the water-regulator, as speciied.
WILLIAM WYATT.
