S tatef of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in' Egg-Test- "ers, of which the following is a specification, reference b g had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to ,newyjand useful improvements in the art of preserving {and more particularly to an egg tester, and my object is to provide a device of this character which issimple in construction and thoroughly eflicient and useful in operation.

A further object of the invention resides in providing a housing; the inner walls of which are darkened, saidhousing being provided with light entrance openings therein, "arid/a further object resides in providing the hands of .the operator therein and also with a sight 'duct. With and other objects in view, my invention,.consistsin'the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and inore particularly pointed outin the specification and claims.

In the accompanying drawings forming a parto'f this application, Figure 1 is a side elevation-of the device having a portion thereof broken away to disclose the position of the lamp. The inner faces of the walls of said housing are entirely darkened in any preferred manner, while the rear wall 3 is provided with a pair of openings'6 to admit light within the housing, and the wall of the housing opposite'that having the openings 6 therein, is provided with a pair of enlarged openings 7 to admit of the hands of the operator being .entered within said housing to hold an egg therein. The top or closure. 2 for the housing is provided with a sight opening 8 which may be disposed in any'desired position thereon and it will be seen that by the operator passing his hands through the openings 7 and holding eggs within or immedlately adjacent the light openingsfi, sight may be had therethrough from't-he aforesaid opening 8. It will be appreciated that in order to effectively operate this device, a strong light must be entered through the light entrance openings 6 of the housing, and to this end, I provide an illuminating means which con= sists of a lamp 9 ,of any desired character, whatsoever, mounted in a casing 01'' the' like 10. This casing has one side thereof en? tirely open, which side is adapted to oppose the rear wall 3 of the housing 1 and the'side walls of said casing are provided with laterally extending flanges 11 which extend the full height ofthe casing and are adapted to be received in channels 12 on the housr ing, which channels are formed by the over;

lapping of the side walls-of the housing onthe rear wall 3 thereof. When properly engaged wit-h the channels of the housing, said casing is adapted to rest upon the extension 5 of the bottom of said housing, whereby it will be seen that said casing maybe readily carried with the housing from place to place, and said casing is provided adjacentits bottom with the supporting stripsjl3lfor the lamp 9 and also has mounted therein adjacent its upper end, a partition; 1%, through which extends the chimney of the lamp. Air openings lfi are also" provided adjacent the upper end of the.cas ing, and the rear wall of said casing is provided with a hinged door 16,.the inner wall of which is provided with a reflector 17, whereby it will be seen that. the light from thefilamp will be reflected through the openings 6 of the housing. In order to carry the device from place to place, the handle members or the like 18 are provided on the sides of the housing 1.

In operation, the lamp 9 is first positioned within the casing 10 and said casing is engaged with the housing 1 by the engagement of the flanges 1-1 of said casing within the channels 12, whereupon the lamp is illuminated, which will cause the rays of light to be reflected from the reflector 17 through the openings 6 in the housing. The
