To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN S. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drop-Terrets for Harness, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to drop terrets for harness, the object of my invention being to construct said terrets in such manner that they cannot be knocked or torn off by projecting parts.

My further object is to construct said terrets with a screw base which construction results in economy in the manufacture of the pad on which they are used and presents a more attractive pad.

By the use of the screw base and by constructing said devices according to my invention repair work is less and said parts are more easily applied to the harness. By the use of my invention said devices are more cheaply manufactured, more readily repaired, more readily applied to and taken from the harness to which they are applied and present a neat appearance when they arc applied to the harness.

The present application is a divisional application from the application filed by me March 20, 1909, Serial Number 484,672.

With the above purposes in View my invention consists in certain novel features of the construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

3 indicates the drop terrets which are preferably made by casting a continuous ring provided with integral shoulders 4 and a reduced integral cylindrical portion 5 in termediate the shoulders.

A cleat 8 is arranged to embrace the reduced cylindrical portion 5 of the terret when said terret is placed in position on the base and said cleat is secured to the base by rivets or the like, such as 9. Openings are formed in the pad fold 1 and pad 2 and an internally threaded socket 1() is secured to the pad by means of screws 11 or other similar detachable devices. Formed integrally with the base 6 is a threaded shank 12 arranged for seating in the socket 10 to secure the base 6, cleat 8 and terret to the pad fold and pad bottom.

It will be seen that I have provided for the terret a screw base which is an economical advantage over the old style of rivet base and eliminates the necessity of punching a series of holes through the leather of the harness saddle and weakening the same, and which provides means for readily applying and removing the terrets from the harness saddle.

As stated before for carrying out my invention it is necessary that the ring of the terret be pivotally mounted to prevent the same from being broken or knocked off, and said bearing may be formed as described, that is to say, by means of a cleat riveted or otherwise secured to the base, or this cleat and base may be cast integrally. In cases where it is desired to cast these parts integrally, the ring of the terret would be formed open and its ends inserted in the bearing thus formed.
