Be it known that I, ALBERT J. THonNLEY, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Pawtucket` in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Vaulting-Horse Bucks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to certain new and useful improvements in vaulting horse bucks, and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide simple, novel and improved means whereby the casters may be caused to engage the floor so as to permit the apparatus to be moved from one place to another in the gymnasium.
In the drawings, Figure 1v is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a similar detail view of the cam lever in one position thereof, and Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, but showing t-he cam lever in another position.
'Ihe base 1 is hollow or open and has a vertical column 2 secured thereto: In practice there are two columns, one at each end of the apparatus, but the present drawings illustrate but one of the columns. The column 2 is hollow and on the interior thereof a short vertical concentric sleeve 3 projects upwardly. The base end of t-he sleeve 3 is cast integral with the base 1, and its upper end is enlarged and formed with a threaded bore 4. The top 5 of the device is formed with a hollow depending stem G that is rigidly secured thereto and whose lower end surrounds sleeve 3 in the space between the latter and the column 2. The caster 7, but one being shown, though in use two are present, is carried by the shoe 8, the latter being pivoted at 9 to a lug 10 which depends from the base 1 on the interior of the latter. The shoe 8 is formed between its ends with a depressed portion or pocket 11, through the bottom of which a screw 12 extends upwardly. The base 1 is formed with a bearing 13 that alines with a similar bearing 14 formed midway of the height of the column 2, a rod 15 being slidingly arranged in said bearings. The upper end of the rod 15 carries a roller 16, that extends on the exterior of the column 2. A shoulder 17 is formed adjacent and on the lower end of the rod 15, the shoulder engaging one end of a coil spring 18 that encircles the rod 15, the other end of the spring seating y on the top portion of the base 1, whereby the spring will normally tend to raise the rod 15 upwardly. The lower end of the rod 15 seats on the upper end of the screw 12, permitting adjustment of the tension of the spring 18, and also allowing the base 1 to be raised to varying distances above the floor, by proper regulation of the screw. The column 2 has a pair of spaced guide ways 19, but one being shown in the drawings, the roller 16 of the rod 15 projecting up into the space between said guide ways. A slot 20 is formed in each guide way to receive the ends of the pin 21, which latter rotatably carries a roller 22, and has a cam lever 23 secured thereto. The pin 21 is capable of movement up and down in the slots 2O and when it and the cam lever 23 with the roller 22 occupies the position shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the rod 15 by reason of t-he action of the spring 18 will bring the roller 16 in contact with the roller 22, permitting the caster to lift. In this position the base 1 will rest upon the floor. If now, itis desired to move the apparatus the cam lever 23 is moved into the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, depressing the rod 15 and with it the shoe 8 and the caster 7, causing the base 1 to be lifted from the floor, the roller 16 being received in the seat 24 of t-he cam lever 23 and locking the said lever against movement or if desired by rot-ating the screw 26 which is in screwthread engagement with the bore 4 of the sleeve 3. By the usual means the body 5 will be lowered until the seat in the stud 25 contacts with the top of the cam lever 23, when the cam lever, the rod 15, the shoe 8 and caster 7 will be moved downward, thus lifting the base from contact with the floor and permitting the apparatus to be moved on the casters.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination with a base and a body andan adjustable connection between the two, means to lower the body, a shoe pivoted to the base and having a caster secured thereto, said slice being formed with a pocket, a screw extending upwardly through the bottom of the pocket, a rod sliding-ly carried by the base having a roller on its upper end and being spring pressed, the lower end ot said rod seating on the screw, a cam lever located above the roller having a roller to engage with the roller of the rod, and also having a seat to reeeive the roller of the rod when the eam lever oeeupies its lower position, means to movably mount the Cam lever so as to permit same to slide up and down, and a seat formed on the body to reeeive the free end ot the lever when the latter occupies vert-ical position, whereby when the body is lowered, the lever and rod will be depressed to lower the shoe.
In combination with a base and a top member having an adjustable connection between the two, and means to lower the top memberA` a pivoted shoe carried by the base and having a easter secured thereto, means to engage the shoe, and means separate trom said lowering means and engageable with said shoe engaging means and with the top member whereby when the latter is lowered, the shoe will be depressed.
3. In combination with a base and top and an adjustable connection between the two, means to lower the top, a east-er movably connected to the base, and means between the easter and top disengageable tl'ierel'rom to depress the shoe when said means are engaged. with the top and the lat ter lowered.

In combination with a base and top with and adjustable connection between the two, means to lower the top, a easter movably connect-ed to the base, means to depress the easter, and means to engage said last named means at its lower end and having its upper end movable to Contact with the top whereby when the latter is lowered, the easter will. be depressed.
5. In combination with the base and a top having an adjustable Connection therebetween and means to lower the top, a easter movably connected to the base, means engag ing the easter to depress same, and pivoted means to engage said last named means and to also engage the top whereby when the latter is lowered, the easter will be depressed.

and a pivoted lever carried by the base inenr ber and having an up and down movement relative thereto, said lever being for engagement between the lirst mentioned means and the top whereby when the latter is lowered the easter will be depressed.

9, In combination with a base member and a top and an adjustable connection between the two, a caster movable relativelj7 to the base, and means interposed between the easter and the top whereby when the latter is lowered the easter will be depressed, said means being normally out of operative connection with the top.

In combination with a base and a top and an adjustable connection therebetween` a easter movable relatively to the base, and a connection between the easter and top, disengageable from the latter, tor effecting depression ot the easter when said connection is in engagement. with the top and the top is lowered.

In Combination with a base member and a top and an adjustable connection be tween the two, a easter movable relatively to the base, means to lower the top, and means between the easter and top to depress the easter when the top is lowered, said last mentioned means being capable ot being rendered inoperative so as to allow the top to be lowered wit-hout actuating the easter.
