BENJAMIN H()NSIl\l(u`rlil1` OF SAME PLAGE.
. Letters Patent No. 105,206, dated July 12, 1870.
MPnovnMeNr IN seen-Hommes.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name.
I, JosmH HoNsINGER, of Harrisburg, in the State of Iennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in a Sash-Holder for Windows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists, mainly, in the arrangement of a few simple parts, some of which are old, in such manner as to constitute a simple and eicient sashholder.
The details of construction and manner of operation will he fully described hereinafter.
In the drawing- Figure 1 represents a perspeetive view of one side of a window, to the sashes of which my improved holder is applied;
Figure `2 represents the case of the holder, with1 the cam and lever in place, the loose rack being also shown in perspective;
Figure 3 represents an interior' view of the case; and
Figures 4 and 5 represent views of the holder as applied to the sash.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will new proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of' operation.
C represents the case, which may he made in any suitable manner.
' I) represents the cam, which is provided with teeth, as shown, and pivoted at the point P in the ease C.
S represents a flat metallic spring, the upper end of which is attached to the case C, and the lower end presses against the cam D.
It represents a toothed rack, one face of which is grooved, if desired, for the purpose of reducing the bearing surface. l
L represents' a lever, and L a crank. These are attac-hed tothe shaft; P of the cam, and serve to operate the latter, when desired.
The operation is as'follows:
When the holder is in its usual position, the loose rack R is pressed against the sash, by means of spring S, through the medium of the cam D, as shown in iig. 5, and, consequently, it is impossible for it to he movedether up or down. By lifting the lcver or crank, however, the cam D is turned inward, and the pressure is 'removed from the sash, and it may he moved in any desired direction.
I do not claim any of these parts, in themselves; but
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letlters Patent of the United States, is-
The specific arrangement ofa three-cogged cam, IJ within a case, 0,1lat spring S, lugs E, and lever L, in combination with a loose three-coggcd rack, It, all arranged andl operating in the manner and for the purpose specified.
JOSIAH HONSINGER.
