semanas., or ancona-mum Yoan., .noma-onces@ nn Patented een., e, rara.
Be it known that l, GEORGE W. SoHnLLEn, a citizen of the United States, and residing at 187 Park avenue, Brooklyn, in the county of. Kings and State of New York, have .1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Closure Devices, o which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it ep ertans to make and use the same.
his invention relates to closure devices for bottles, jugs, jars, and similar vessels; and the object thereof is to provide animproved device of this class particularly de signed for use in closing a milk bottle, but which may be used or closing other vessels or this class, and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specied constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
` rllhe invention is lfully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which.
the separate parts of my invention are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a central vertical section of the neck of a milk bottle provided with my improved closure device, and showing the same open to p'ermit of the discharge of the contents of the bottle, the section of the closure device being on the line l-l of Fig. 2:-Fig. 2 is a plan view of the closure device detached and showing the parts in the same position as in Fig. 1:- Fig. 3 a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing the parts ofthe closure device in position to close the bottle, and Fig. 4C a section en the line effi o Fig. 2.
En the drawing forming part of this specification I have shown at a the neck of a milk bottle and said neck is provided in the top thereof with the usual annular groove a2 forming, in the construction shown, a bottom annular shoulder a3 and a downwardly and inwardly inclined top wall at, but my invention is not limited to the exact form of the groove a2.
in the practice of my invention I provide a closure device b consisting of two similar disks b2 of exible and preferably elastic material,- and which may be composed of Celluloid, stiE paper, or 'similar fibrous material, and if paper or similar material is employed it may be treated' with paraiinv or other substance so as to render it water proof. The'disks b and b2 are pivotally connected at the center thereof, as shown at o,
side thereof with a large opening d which is approximately semi-circular in form except at one end which is cut od at an angle t orrn a straight wall e and a thumb and 4 ger piece e2.
In the use of this closure device it is forced into the neck of the bottle after the bottle has been filled and rests in the groove o2, as shown in Fig. 1, andin order to open the bottle the top disk b2 is turned, into the position shown in Figs. .l and 2, ,and vin which position of said parts the contents of the bottle, or a part thereof may be discharged, as will be readily understood, and
Vby turning the top disk back into the posi- 'and each of said disks is provided in one 'I rlhe disks b2 are also provided each with y an air vent opening f and these air vent openings are so arranged as to register when the said disks are in positionV to permit of the discharge of the contents of the bottle.
Having fully described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A closure device for bottles comprising two similar flexible disks of the same transverse dimensions, said disks being pivoted together centrally thereof and adapted to rotate on their pivotal connections, and said disks being also provided with similar large openings which are adapted to register when one of said disks is turned on the other, said disks being adapted to be inserted into the neck of a bottle with either side up, and means for turning each disk on the other, said disks being also provided with vent openings adapted to register when the large openings register.
2. rlhe combination with the neck of a bottle, provided in the top4 thereoie with an annular groove, of a closure device consisting of two similar exible disks of the same transverse dimensions, said disks being pivoted together centrally thereof and adapted to rotate on their pit/Otel connection, and seid disks being also provided with similar large openings which ere edepted to register when one of sei@ disks is turned on the ether9 end with Ineens whereby either may l be turned on the other.
weisse In testimony that claim the foregoing Vas my invention have signed my name in '10 presence of the subscribing Witnesses this 23rd day of April, 1912.
GERGE W. SCHELLER.
