ATTACHMENT FOR DISK HARTROWS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 191 3.
Application filed June 12, 1912. Serial No. 703,275.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josern B. RIDGWAY, a citizen of the United States, residing; at Curtis, in the county ol' Frontier and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Iniprovements in Attachments for Disk Harrows, of which the "following is a specificatioil.
This invention relates to an improved at tachment for disk barrows having for its object to iconvert an, ordinary disk barrow intoa useful and elficient land roller.
A. further object of the invention is to produce simple and inexpensive devices ca pable ot being mounted on the initlividual harrow disks for the purpose of converting the same intoindividual rollers and pulvcr izers. 0 With these and other ends inview which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In. the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modificaresorted to when desired.
In the drawing,'-Figur'e l is a view in side elevation of a .ha'rrow disk equipped with the improved attactnnent, parts havingbcenbroken away for the purpose of showing the construction more clearly. Fig 2 is a sectional view taken on the line in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on theline S 3 in Fig. '1. Fig. -l is a perspective detail view of one of the members or units of the improved attachment removed from the disk.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters oi reference.
The improved attzurhn'lent is composed of two similar members or units 1, 1. which are adapted to be mounted on an ordinary harrow disk 2 id which combine to form a, hoop or tire surrounding said disk and coacting therewith to constitute a roller and pulverizer.
The units of the improved attachment may be conveniently mach-r by pressing or tainping of suitable sheet metal. and each 1 connection with unit includes two outwardly divergentside walls 3, 3, arcuato ground engaging tread plates 4, 4 extending from the outer edges of said side walls and converging at the apex 5, and disk engaging l'ace plates 6, G which extend inwardly from the inner edges of the divergent side walls intermediate said side walls, said .i'ace plates being suitably shaped to engage the two sides or faces of the disk 2, one of said laces being convex and the other concave.
The meeting ends of the units, when applied to a disk, will overlap, as shown at 7, and they may then be secured in position by means oi. a connecting bolt 8 extending through the overlapping portions, said bolt being curved, as shown, and the curved portion tbercot' engaging the edge of the disk Additional similarly curved bolts 8 may beused at intervals to connect the side walls of *ili'll unit for the purpose of preventing radial movement of said units with reference to the disk.
i l I l or convcuicm-e m construct ion, each unit may be made of two separate plates connect ed together at the apex 5 of the tread plates by means of rivets t) or in any other suitable and convenient. manner.
As will-he seen from the l'ts-egoing description. taken in connection with drawing hereto annexed, a simple and ellic'icnt attachment has been provided which may be readily applied to the disks of an ordinary disk barrow which will thus be converted into a land roller and clod pulvcrizcr. 'lhc iacc plates 6 which engage the opposite sides or [faces of the disk will serve to maintain the units of the device firmly and securely in proper position for operation in the bolts 8, which when tiglitcncdwill cause the disk to be clamped between the lace plates (3, 6.
Ila/ring thus (ll-scribed the invention, what is claimed as ncw, isz
l. A device of the class described comprisin; two semi-circular units combining to form a disk engaging tire, each unit having outwardly divergent side walls, inwardly converging tread plates, and face plates extom ling inwardly from the inner edges of the side walls intermediate said-side walls.
2. A. device oi. the class described comprising two"semi-circular units having, overlupping meeting ends, each unit having outwardly divergent side walls, inwardly converging tread plates extcnding from tlalc theou'ier edges of said side walls, anti face plates exiending inwardly item the inner edges of the side WiLiiS intermediate said sifie Wells.
device of the character ciescribed comprising two semi-circular units, each. in-
eiuding outwardly divergent sidewaiis, ar-
tread portion connecting the outer edges of the side Walls, face pistes exiending. inwardly from fihe inner edges of the siiie Waiis intermediatesaid side Walls, and eismping bolts extending through iihe side 1' Walls.
side wsiis, s breed portion e( outer edges of the side Walls, face pistes extending inwardly from the inner edges of the sioie Wells, and curved clamping bolts 1 extending through the side Walls and engag- 'ing' the edge of the disk to prevent radial -moveme 1 fi of the units.
6, The combination with a iisk, of? an attachment oinprising two semi-circular 'iinits having overlappmg meeting ends and sash including outwardly divergent side walis, a. tread portion eonneefi'ng' the outer edges of theside walls, and face plates ex tending inwardly from the inner edges of anti between the side Walls; and clamping bolts extending through the side alls at i;he" 0ver1apping portions thereof and; at, ini'gegrmediate points, said elampingbolts having curved; portions engaging the edge of the disk.
-' In testimony whereof affix my signatore iii presenee of two witnesses. s
