' The weight D is to, balance the gat-e on the chain.
'lh'e latch-post A contains a slide, M.- Sad slide is perforated with holes corresponding with the links in the chain, and, by passing a piu,E, through any one of these holes, the slide is sustained in a position corresponding with that of the gate.
The slide M is made to receive the ends of two bars, K I, which project from the gate.
The post A may be grooved, to admit the'slid M,
'or it may be constructed of two pieces, with a strip on the side opposite the gate, the two pieces to have' a relative position to each other that will permit of the proper Working of the slide.
The gate is fastened by the gravity-latch L, which hooks into the slide.
