y The invention embodies, among other fea-- tures, an apparatus whereby a large numberA of eggs can be candled in a short space of time, use being made of a mirror mounted within a box-like structure for reflecting the eggs mounted on the box-like structure, a suitable carrier lieing provided for supporting thc'eggs 1n candling posit/ion.

In the further disclosure f"tl1e invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings. constituting a part of this speci cation, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device; Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view; Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the sections of the carrier.

Referring more particularly to the views, I employ a box-like casing 10 including a base 11 and provided with an inclined face `12 having an openingl therein, flanges 11 .mounted upon the section 15, the openings 15c in the section 151L beim1r adapted to register with the openings lod in the section 15", it being readilyv understood that one of the sections of the carrier 15, or both, can be conveniently mounted in the opening 13 in the face 12 and supported therein by thc flanges 11, described heretofore.

A mirror 18 is mounted on the base 11 of tht` casing 10 and an opening 19 is formed in tht rear Wall Q0 of the casing.

In the use of the device, the section 15 is placed in the opening 13 of the casing, a number of eggs having been previously mounted in the openings 15 in the section 15, it being understood that the openings 15C are restricted to an extent sufficient to support the eggs therein. Now by gazing through the opening 19 in the rear wall of the casing 10, the operator Will see the lower ends of the eggs on the section 15a reflected in the mirror 18 and thus any defects in the eggs can be readily detected. The section 15b is now vplaced upon the section 15n so that the upper ends of the eggs on the section 15"L will extend through the openings 15El in the section 15b and the t-Wo sections, constituting the carrier 15, are now removed from the casing and turned upside down and, replaced on the casing so that the section 15b will be supported in the opening 13 so `that, the other ends of the eggs will depend in the casing 10, the section 15a being now removed and placed aside. The operator then again gazes through the opening 19 and can then readily detect any defects in the other ends of the eggs, thus completing the candling operation.

In the use of a device of the character described, it should be noted that the eggs can be candled in day light and it is not necessary to take the apparatus in to a dark room as is usually the case in eandling eggs. It should also be noted that with my device a large number of eggs can be candled at one time and need not be separately candled as is tho case in a large number of egg testers now generally used. By providing the rib 16 on the section 151L and the groove 17 on the section 15", the operator can lnore easily connect the sections so that the apertures or openings 15C and 15d in the respective sections 15 and 15b will register. The section 15u and the section 15b can be made of any desirable material, wood or cardboard being preferably employed, and it will be understood that the sections can also be used without the use of the rib 1G and groove 17. If desirable suitable handles Q1, 22 15b, respectively, for the purpose of facilitating the handling of the sections.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:
