VEIL-COUPLING.

opening, 11, and the loops or return-bends.
From the foregoing explanation it will be seen that the loop or return bend, 5, of cross To all whom it may concern: openings, 10, in the have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Veil-Couplings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved device for securing veils about the heads of women and has particular reference to a device to be located at the back of the head to engage and form a coupling for the ends ofthe veil which are usually gathered to gether at the rear.
The object of the invention is to provide a coupling of the character set forth which shall be attractive in appearance, simple in construction and operation; which will notenable the ends of the veil to be en 'aged to hold the latter taut about the hea and at the same time secure the ends so as to prevent them from blowing about.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein,-
Figure 1, shows a face view of the holder or coupling engaging the gathered ends of Fig. 2, illustrates a similar view of the holder detached, and Fig. 3, shows a longitudinal section through the holder or eoupling, the section being taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing the coupling or holder therein shown comprises an open frame 1, having an outline or inclosing 2, and a plurality of inclosed cross-bars, 3, and, 4, respectively preferably of like shape or formation, although this is not essential. These cross-bars, 3, and, 4, extend in a general direction from the inner side of the inclosing bar, 1, at one side to the inner side of said inclosing bar at the opposite side of said inclosing frame, and said cross The inclosing bar, 2, has inwardly-extending loops or return-bends, 12, and, 13, respectively at diametrically opposite ends.
e inner curved end of the return-bend, 12, confronts the curved end of the return bend, 5, on crossbar, 3, and the curved end of the return-bend, 6, on cross-bar, 4. These end return bends, 12, and, 1.3, have enlarged openings, 14, and, 15, respectively and narrow throats or entrances 16, and, 17, leading thereto.
In using the coupling or holder the veil, 18, is placed about the head or hat in the usual manner and the ends, 19, and, are gathered together at the rear. The end, 19, of the gathered veil is then passed outwardlv through the opening, 11, formed between the cross-bars, 3, and, 4, and is then drawn to one side and squeezed through the throat, 9, and into the loop or returnbend, 5, of cross-bar, 3. The other end, 20, of the veil is then also passed through central opening, 11, and is drawn in a direction opposite to that in which end, 19, was drawn, and squeezed through the throat, 9, and into the loop or return bend, 6, of crossbar, 4. In drawing on this end, 20, of the veil the latter is put under such tension as the wearer desires and the return bends will act as grips or clamps to hold said veil-ends in the drawn position. In order to prevent accidental release of the veil-end and also to engage that portion of each end bars have lateral extensions, 5, and, 6, r that extends beyond the loops or bends, 5, spectively, in the form of loops or returnand, 6, said ends are then passed through the bends. Each return-bend has a contracted throats, l6, and, 17, respectlvely and rethroat or entrance, 9, and an enlarged openturned to the inner side of the frame so as ing, 10, is thus provided beyond said throat to be positioned between said inner side of ar entrance. A central opening, 11, is prothe frame and the outer side of the veil vided bet-ween the opposite sides of the inbetween which said ends are clamped and held from slipping or from loosely swinging about during movement of the head or by the wind.
It will thus be seen that the device forms :losing bar, from which the cross-bars, 3, LIIC, 4, extend, and the said cross-bars and he contracted throats 0r entrances, 9, form passage which connects the said central of return-bend, 13, confronts the curved end a secure coupling for the ends of the veil and at the same time is of a neat and attractive appearance and that no perforations are made in the veil.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A veil coupling comprising an inclosing outline bar with a return-bend or loop ex.- tending inwardly at opposite sides thereof and also having cross-bars extending crosswise of and between opposite sides of the outline bar and in a direction which crosses the inner ends of said return-bends or loops on the said outline bar and said cross-bars In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
