UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BELA KORMENDY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THEODOR KUNDTZ, OF
' LAKEWOOD, OHIO.
SEAT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 1 1 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BELA KORMENDY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State.- of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seats; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such 'as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same. 7
This invention relates to improvements in seats, and more especially to a, seat having a seat-section and a back-secti0n which comprises two upright wooden side posts arranged at the rear edge and at opposite side edges respectively of the seat-section, and the primary object of this invention is to attach the sideposts to the seat-section not only at the rear edge ofthe seat-section but at the side edges of the seat-section at points spaced forwardly from the rear edge of the seat-section without requiring the employment of separate pieces in attaching said posts to the seat-section at said points.
Another object of this invention is to have the connections between seat-section and said posts strong, durable, inexpensive and attractive. v
With these objects in view, this'invention consists in certain eculiaritiesof construction, and combinations and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in. the accompanying drawings.
In said drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a seat embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is arear view of the seat. Fig. 3 is an end'view of the seat. w
Referring to said drawings, A indicates the-seat-section of my improved seat, and B, the back-section of the seat. The backsection 13 comprises two wooden side posts 6 arranged at the rear edge and at opposite side edges respectively of the seat-section. Each post 6 consists of a single upright piece of wood having the grain .5 thereof running up and'down or endwise of the post. Each post I) has its lower end-portion shown divided at a point centrally between the sides of the post into two members 6 and 7 arranged side by side and forming the inner side and outer side respectively of said divided end-portion of said post. The said i divided portion "of cachspost extends above 1 edge end-portions of the posts 6.
member 7 of the bifurcated end-portion of the seat-section A, and the inner member 6 of said divided portion overlaps and is suitably attached to the seat-section at the rear of the seat-section. The outer member 7 of said divided end-portion of each post?) is bent and projects to and. alongside of of the seat-section to the seat-section and at a point or from the rear the adjacent side edge and is suitably attached at said side edge, as at'8, points spaced forwardly edge of the seat-section.
I would have it understood that my in vention comprises broadl a back-section in Which each side post 6 portion bifurcated and has one member of said bifurcated end-portion attached to the seat-section at the rear edge of the seatsection and has the other member of said bifurcated end-portion bent and projecting forwardly and attached to the seat-section forwardly of the rear edge of the seatsection.
The division of the lower end-portion of each post 6 into two members is efiected in any approved manner and, of course, the inner member 6 of said end-portion of'the post is originally as long as the outer member of the said end-portion of the post and shortened to prevent said inner end-member from. depending in an unsightly manner below the seat-section. In dotted lines, at lO, Fig. 2, are shown the portions severed from the inner end members of the bifurcated Theouter each post 6 to readily place it in the forwardly projecting position illustrated is steamed and while steamed pressed into said position. The outer member 7 of the bifurcated portion of each post 6 forms a for wardly projecting arm' which possesses greater strength and durability and is more attractive and less expensive than a separate piece attached by securing devices to the post as well as to the seat-section- \Vhat I claim is In a seat, aseat-section and a back-section which comprises two upright side posts arranged at the rear edge and at opposite side edges respectively of the seat-section, each post comprising an upright piece of wood having the grain thereof running endwise of the post, said piece having its lower endportion divided centrally between the sides of the post into-two members forming the forwardly and extends as its lower endinner side and outer side respectively of said divided portion of said post, said divided portion of said post extending above the seat-section, the inner member of said divided portion of said post overlapping and being attached to the seat-section at the rear edge of the seat-section, and the outer member of said divided portion of said post being bent forwardly to and alongside of 10 the adjacent side edge of the seat-section l going specification, in the presence of two 15 witnesses.
