Be it known that, l, RALPH H. Dixon, a citizen of the Unitedv States, residing at Newark, in thel county of Essex and Sta-te of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal Pumps,
and do hereby declare the following to be a r full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use t-he same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and ,to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part ofthis specification.
This invention relates, generally, to improvements in pumping apparatus; and, the
present invention has reference, generally, to
a novel construction of pum of the centrifugal type, wrt-h a view ot providlng a simply constructed and ethciently operating centrifugal pump in which therevolutions of the impeller create a vacuum,
sucking the water with greater force into the casing of the apparatus, and in consequence discharging the water in greaterv quantities and greater force than is the case with the usual forms of centrifugal pumping apparatus.

By means of the said hub or boss the impeller is mounted upon the free end-portion of the previously. mentioned shaft or axle and directly against the annular collaror shoulder of said shaft or axle to take up any thrust, and to prevent shock and vibration, and heating due to the rapidly running parts. From the foregoing description of the present invention, it will be. clearly evident,
that l have devised a simply constructed and smoothly acting centrifugal pump, which will run with greatly increased eiiiciency and at a minimum expenditure of cost, the 'parts of the apparatus having also been reduced to a minimum, and'tbeing a1'- ranged and constructed so as to offer the' least resistance or impediment to the flow or passage ofthe fluid through the pump, and furthermore preventing shock and vibration.

A centrifugal pump comprisinga main member and cover-section formed respectively with an inlet yand an outlet, an impeller-,elementI rotatably arranged between said main member and said cover-section, and impeller vanes connected with said impeller-element, one setof vanes being formed on one side with convex surfaces and upon their opposite sides with concave impactreceiving and power-producing surfaces, and another set of said vanes being Iprovided upon one side with concavo-convex surfaces and upon their oppositesides with M5 convex-concave surfaces, said last-mentioned concavo surface-portions providing pocket-like depressions of such shape so that the iluidpassing between the vanes will produce a vacuum between the vanes.
