To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Sco'rr HORNEB,-8. citi- Zen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Linings for Sewers and the Like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference 'beintg had to the accompanying drawings, orming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an end elevation of a sewer or conduit, the same being provided with lining constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the sections of my improved lining.

My invention relates to a lining for sewers, conduits and the like, the principal object\ of my invention being to construct a lining which is made up of a series of interlocking blocks or sections, the same being formed of vitrified earthen material or the like, thus providing a smooth hard surface for the interior of the sewer or conduit, the outer portion of which is constructed of hardened plastic material, anchored in grooves formed in the outer faces of the lining blocks or sections.

To the above purposes, my invention con-' sists in features of novelty hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring by numerals -to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates the body of one of the blocks or sections, the same being preferably formed of vitrified earthen material and of any convenient length and thickness, and said block is segmental in cross-section, its curvature corresponding to the size of the sewer or conduit to be formed. The inner face 2 of the block is perfectly plain and smooth, and formed in one of the side edges of each block is a longitudinally extending groove 3, which is adapted to receive a corresponding rib 4 formed on'the opposite edge of the next adjacent block or section. Thus when a-number of the blocks or sections are assembled in circular arrangement to form the lining of the sewer or conduit, the rib 4 on each block interlocks in the groove 3 of the next adjacent block,

thus maintaining all of the blocks in proper position while the self-hardening plastic material is applied to the exterior of the I 65- lining.

These intersecting dovetailed grooves 5 and 6'provide means in the form of a medial series of under-cut projections on the convex surface of the tile and two marginal series of under-cut projections which follow respectively the edges of the tile, which projections have their outer faces flush with the sides of the tile, all of which projections providing a means whereb the body of concrete 7, or analogous self-liardening plastic material, is, firmly anchored to the interior of the blocks forming the lining, and after the body of concrete or the like has been applied to the lining a very strong, durable and permanent sewer or conduit is formed. The marginal series of projections on the convex surface of the tiles are formed with relation such to the marginal grooves and ton es that when the tiles are laid together w1th theirtongues and grooves interlocking the outer faces of the marginal projections contact. I claim:
