STRIKING-BAG.

To all whom it may concern: I Be it known that 1, CHARLES L. FINNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Striking-Bags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to exercising devices and more particularly to punching or striking bags.

The object in view is to provide a support for a punching or striking bag which may suspended from the shoulders of the individual taking exercise and so supported that it can be operated upon by the hands, elbows or knees.

With this object in view the invention consists briefly in supporting a ring above the shoulders and about the neck of the individual and providing means whereby the supporting device proper may be shifted or,

rotated with reference to the collar or other supporting device.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, Figure 1 is a front view of the device in position for use. Fig. 2 is a side .view thereof. Fig. 3 is'a side view of the neck ring with the bracing devices for the shoulder supports attached.

Fig. 4 is a perspective view of such bracing devices. Fig. 5 shows means for hinging the ring and separating and securing the hinged portions at the front.

Referring to Fig. 1, 10 indicates a neck ring which may be of circular or other suitable formation, such ring being provided with an annular groove 15 in the outer edge thereof and being carried upon shoulder supports 16. These supports are of the formshown in Fig. 2 and are provided with bracing means 17 shown in Fig. 4:, such bracing means serving to reinforce felt or other suitable strips 8. which are designed to Contact with the shoulders and body portion of the wearer. The bracing devices 17 are U-shaped and are curved in themanner shown in Fig. 4;, being provided with turned over portions 18 at their upper ends which engage apertures in the lower portion of the ring 10. of shoulder pieces 16 carry'loop members 20 which may be of elastic material and are designed to accommodate'the belt 21.

The ring may be formed in one piece and made sufliciently large to be slipped over the head of the wearer or hinged at25 as shown in Fig. 5. In order to accommodate the hinge and provide for the separation ofthe two sections, the said sections are cut away at their end portions 26 and the opposite end portions are secured by a fastening device 27. y

A metallic ring 28 encircles collar 10 and is located in groove 15, this ring being provided with smaller rings or loops 29 at the front which rings are arranged to. be

brought together and to have suspended therefrom the device for immediately sup porting the bag. This device consists of a hooked member 30, a metallic loop member 31 having swivel connection therewith, a coil spring 32 connected with member 31 and a cord 33 connected with the spring and with the bag.

It will be observed that the connection described permits of the adjustment of the height of the bag 34 by means of the cord and that the spring affords a proper degree of elasticity. The portion 35 of metallic ring 28 projects to a certain extent from the front of collar 10 in order that there may be sufficient room to permit the supporting device proper to swing sidewise without:

striking the shoulders.

From the foregoing description it will be observed that the device provides every facility for exercisingwith a punching or striking bag without the necessity of providing apparatus which must be permanently securedto the ceiling of a room or 7 some portionof a building.

I claim:

1. Ina device of the'class described, a member supported from the body in a stationary position and encircling the neck, a striking bag, and means for supporting said bag from said member and permitting the movement of the bag in all directions and the sidewise movement of the supporting means. In a device of the class described, a plurality of shoulder supports, a neck ring carried thereby, a rotary member encircling said neck ring, and means for supporting a bag fro-m said rotary member, said means including a resilient extensible device.

4. In a device of the class described, a shoulder support, a bracing member constituting a portion of said support, a neck ring, means for connecting the bracing member and neck ring, said ring being provided with a grooved portion on the edge thereof, a second ring encircling the ring first mentioned, and a bag supporting device extending from the second ring.

5. In a device of the class described, a plurality of shoulder supports, a collar member carried thereby, said collar member being formed in sections, means for hinging the sections, a member rotatable with reference to the ring and means for supporting a bag from said member.

6. In a device of the class described, a plurality of shoulder supports of substantially U-shaped formation, a belt, and means for connecting the belt with said supports, a collar member, a rotatable device carried by the collar member, and means for supporting a bag from the rotatable device.
