METHOD OF COPYING LETTERS.
To all who-111,125 mu 1 concern.
Be it known that I, EDMUND LIoI-rrnN- s'rsm, subject of the German Emperor, residing at Berlin, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Methods of Copying Letters, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an improved method of copying letters and the like written or printed matter, the invention consisting in an improvement which may be applied to or carried out with copying machines of known types- These machines are to some extent dependent for their satisfactory operation upon the nature of the original letters and the like to be copied,
matter which has been written'or printed in copying ink for any length of time not making such' a good copy as freshly written or printed matter. According to the present invention this difficulty is overcome by heating the sheets which are to be copied while they are in the copying machine. The effect of this heating is surprising. The heating canbe-efl'ectedin a variety of avays. may
advantageously be efiected by the copying roller itself, by which the original letter or the like is carried onto and held against the damp copying paper. In this case the heating is effected by a suitable heating. device within the roller itself.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated diagrammatically in the drawing.

Thepaper then passes between roller e and the copying roller 1 which is heated in any suitable manner, as for example, by means of a gas burner positioned within the roller. The copying paper then runs between rollers h and 'zl-to the cutting device. The paper to be copied is inserted as indicated by the arrow between the copying roller 9 and the copying paper, whereby the paper to be copied will be in engagement with the heated roller during the copying process.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention,
and in whatmanncr the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:-
The herein described method of copying letters which consists in runnin the sheets containing the matter to be copiedand the moistened copying paper over the copying roller, the sheet containing the matter to be copied being interposed between the copying paper and the roller, andheating the roller from within, whereby the sheets will be subjected directly to the action of heat while passing over the roller.
