Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM LEAOH,

' Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Newton, county of l /fiddlesex, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Auxiliary Grips for Small Firearms, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object to provide an easily attachable and removable auxiliary grip for hand firearms which is intended primarily to prevent the grip from slipping in the hand in shooting and may or may not be elongated to extend the grip, as preferred.

It is of course well understood that in shooting, the palm of the hand is apt to become moist which interferes seriously with the control of the weapon by marksmen and greatly increases the difiiculty in shooting accurately. The grips of revolvers, pistols,

etc., are usually checkered or otherwise roughened but this does not wholly overcome the difficulty. It is a frequent custom for marksmen to overcome the difficulty by wrapping the grips of their revolvers and pistols with electricians tape, which is unsightly; sometimes elastic bands are used and sometimes a handkerchief is wrapped about the grip. v

To overcome these objections I have provided amauxiliary grip made of soft rubber or other elastic material which may be easily slipped over the ordinary grip of a revolver or pistol and will be self-retaining in place by its own elasticity. When the weapon is not in use the auxiliary grip may be easily removed so as not to interfere with the normal appearance of the weapon, and said grip may be as easily when required for accurate shooting. In case, moreover, that the regular grip of the weapon is not long enough to give the marksman a good hold thereon, an auxiliary grip may be provided which will add as much as may be required to the length of the grip, and thus insure perfect control of the weapon in shooting without marring or in' any way affecting the natural beauty of the weapon as the auxiliary grip has no slipped to place again positive engagement therewith but retains itself in place by its own elasticity and is easily removed when not required.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a longitudinal section of my novel auxiliary grip in place on the grip of a revolver or pistol; Fig. 2 an elevation of an auxiliary grip in place on the grip of a revolver or pistol; and Fig. 3 is a similar view showing an auxiliary grip in the form of a sleeve;

The special configuration or design of my novel auxiliary grip is of course wholly immaterial so far as the principle of the invention is concerned. It will be noted that in Figs. 1 and 2, I have illustrated different configurations. I preferably provide the auxiliary grip with a closed end 12, as in Figs. 1 and 2. Unless the user has a small hand or the revolver or pistol grip is longer than those usually provided, I recommend an auxiliary grip of substantially the con-- figuration shown in Fig. 2, the closed end of which engages the butt of a revolver or pistol grip and is thickened sufliciently to add appreciably to the length of the revolver or pistol grip and thus be of great assistance to the marksman in fine shooting. The form illustrated in Fig. 3 is simply a sleeve; that is, open at both ends and made of suitable size and length to cause it to close firmly upon the grip of a pistol or revolver, and being made approximately the length of grips of that type. Either form may be quickly attached when required and as easily and quickly removed when not required, so that the appearance of the weapon is not affected, it being obvious that when a winding of electricians tape or any similar material is used the appearance of the weapon is seriously impaired.
