Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

' Be it known that I, GEORGE SEELMAN, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing in Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee -and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Books, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, whichr are a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in pocket books and articularly to pocket books for holding bi ls and in which a concealed pocket is provided.

It is oneof the .objects of this invention to provide a pocket book for holding bills in which a concealed pocket is provided, the entrance to which is visible only upon the most careful scrutiny and examination of the book.

A further object of the invention is to provide a pocket book of the character described whlch is provided with a bill flap and which is adapted to be folded medially to bind and hold bills placed between the book and the cover.

A further object of the invention is to provide a pocket book of the character described in which a concealed pocket is formed in the lining of the book and the entrance thereto is concealed beneath th binding edge of the book.

A further object of the invention is to provide a pocket bookof the character de scribed which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture and is ornate in appearance.

With the above, and other objects in view, the invention consists of the pocket book and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof. 1n the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in the several views: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pocket book in folded position; Fig. 2 is a view of the pocket book in open position, parts being broken away and 'other parts in section to show interior construction; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view thereof taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 isa similar view thereof with the bill flap Jand the concealed ocket shown in open position; and Fig. 5 1s a side view of a fragment of the pocket Application nled September 23, 191). Referring to the drawing the numeral 8 indicates the pocket book which is of elonygated rectangular form having a medial an outer cover portion 10 which is folded l over the edges of the lining or inner por-` tion 11 and a line of stitches 12 binds the bottom and side edges 13 and? 14 respectively of the lining between the folded over portions 15 and 16 of the cover. The upper edge of the lining 11 is sufficiently long to just extend beneath the upper folded over portion 17 of the cover and not be engaged bythe upper line of stitches 18 and thus forms a concealed entrance 19 to a concealed pocket 20 between the cover portion 10 and the lining 11 of the book. A bill flap 21 the upper edge. of which extends beneath the upper folded over portion of the cover and stitched thereto by the line of stitches 18 normally depends downwardly therefrom and serves to hold bills in place in the book and to further conceal the entrance opening to the concealed pocket. The bill flap is also provided with a medial folding crease in alinement 4with the fold of the cover portion and folds therewith.

The concealed pocket is shown as provided with an inner lining to give a more finished appearance to the book, and when so provided is of the same color as the outside of the book so that the pocket would not be noticed if accidentally opened.

In use bills of large denomination are placed in the concealed pocket and only bills of smaller denomination are kept beneath the bill fla-p so that .when the 'book is opened and the' bill Hap is raised only the bills of smaller denomination will be visible and the impression will not be given that the book contains alarge amount of money as the entrance to the concealed pocket is not visible. If it is desired to gain entrance to the concealed pocket, it is only necessary to slip out the edge of the lining from benath thefolded over portion of the" cover and the pocket is open for the insertion or removal of bills.'

The provision of the fold of the cover and the bill iap provides for securelv holding vthe bills in position in the book.

From the foregoing description it willbe seen that the pocket book is well adapted erform the functions desired.

A- pocket book, comprising an outer cover having a bill flap secured Vthereto at one ed e, said cover and flap being creased media y at right angles to the connected edge of the ilap to permit the folding of the cover and the iiap' together, the cover folding over the flap portion, a lining interposed between the cover andthe flap and secured to the bottom and side edges thereof to formi-a concealed pocket', the upper edge of thelining being free from connection with'the cover and adapted to be con` cealed from view beneath the connected edge of the cover flap.

Av pocket book, comprising an outerA cover having a 'bil1 flap secured thereto at o11e edge, a lining interposed between the Vcover and theflap and secured to the bottom rand side edges of the cover to form a concealed pocket, the upper edge of the lining being free from connection with the cover and adapted to be concealed from view beneath the connected edge of the cover Hap.

3. A pocket book, comprising an outer cover having turned over 'edges and a lining connected to 'the bottom and side'edges of the cover beneath the turned over portions to form .a connected pocket, a 4bill lap connected topthe upper edge of the cover beneath the upper turned over portion and depending downwardly therefrom, the upper edge of the lining being free from connection with the cover to provide an entrance to the concealed pocket and adapted to be concealed from view beneath the upper turned over edge of the cover.
