To all whom. it 'may concer/i:

Be it known that I, MARTIN F. MGKASTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jamaica, in the county of Queens, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Markers and Rowers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in markers and rowers.

An object of this invention is the provision of a device of the character described which is provided with a suitable gage or marker for use by the operator in guiding the machine.

.Another object of this invention is the provision of a device of the character described in which the shares may be adjustable so as to extend in parallel relation or at an angle to each other.

A further object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use and readily operated.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof taken on the line 2-*2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is an end view of my improved marker and rower.

Referring to the accompanying drawings by similar characters of reference throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally my improved marker and rower which comprises a pair of longitudinally extending bars 1l and l2, which are held in spaced relation to each other by suitable connecting rods 13. The forward ends of the rods 13 are formed with eyes lil which are connected to a bar 15 by means of suitable links 16. Angular extensions 17 are secured to the forward edges of the bar 15 and arc connected at their inner sides by a bolt 18 and a pivoting bar 19. A suitable draft attachment 2O is pivoted to the bar 19 intermediate the opposite ends there- Specification of Letters Patent.

of and between the inner sides of the angular extension 17. The intermediate portion of the bars 11 and 12, have secured thereto spring cross bars 21 to t-he intermediate portion of which at the junctures thereof is secured a seat 22 for the convenience of the operator of the machine. The bars l1 and 12 are each provided with a plurality of apertures 23 and 24k for the reception of the vertically extending bolts 25 secured to the opposite end of the shares or blades 26. The openings 23 are greater in-number than the openings 24 and are so arranged that the shares 26 may be swung either in parallel relation to each other and secured in position or outwardly at an angle as indicated by Fig. 1 of the drawings by the full and dotted lines. Casings 27 are secured to the opposite end of the bar 11 and are formed with longitudinal pockets 23 in which is secured the reduced terminal of a marker arm 29. This markervarm is interchangeable so as to engage either of the sockets 28 oft-he casings 27 secured to the opposite end of the bar 11.

The outer end of the marker arm 29 is provided with a U-shaped clip 30 which receives the marking foot 31 which it holds in its various adjusted positions with the said clip 30 by a set screw 32. rlhe lower end of this marker foot 31 is equipped with a share 33 which when the device is propelled over the ground will make a line by means of which the operator of the machine will be enabled to guide his machine over the ground digging the furrows in parallel relation to each other.

The device is used as follows VVhen the shares 26 are arranged in parallel relation to each other 'as illustrated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the dra-wings the machine will be propelled over the ground, will cut a plurality of parallel grooves, but when the said shares are held in the position as indicated by the full lines of Fig. l, the same will dig a plurality of furrows such as is obtained by using an ordinary plow when the machine is propelled over the ground. When the shares are arranged in parallel relation and the machine is propelled over a plowed iield it will be readily seen that the seed rows are dug in which the seed may be deposited.

From the foregoing disclosures taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be manifest that a rower and marker is provided for which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.

I-l'aving1 thus fully described this invention what I claim as new and desire to protect hy Letters Patent, is:-

The Combination of a front har having a marker at one end thereof, a rear bar arranged parallel to the front har and spaced apart therefrom, transversely extending parallel rods Connecting` the rear and front bars, the forward ends of said rods eX tending; through the front bar and ter1ninating,` in attaching' eyes, a draft appliance conneeted to the attaching eyes of the rods, and plow shares pivotally connected with the rear har and adjustahly held against displacement on the front bar.
