Be it known that l, EDwARD B. VRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Roll Sample-Cases, of which the following is a specication,

The invention relates to a sample carrier, and more particularly to the class of roll sample display cases.

rEhe primary object of the invention is the provision of a case in which a plurality of fabric sample designs may be carried, so that the same may be conveniently and readily displayed to customers by agents, drummers, canvassers, or other users of the case, thus avoiding the necessity of the employment of boxes, dress-suit cases, boo-ks, or the like, ordinarily used for this purpose.

It has heretofore been the custom by woolen houses, mail o-rder houses, merchant tailors, tailors for trade houses, and all other clothing concerns to use valises, satchels, boxes, or the like for carrying samples of merchandise, and especially fabric sample designs, which is a great disadvantage to the user and very inconvenient, as well as for the use of the drummer on the road, or the solicitor who takes orders for suoli houses, because it is diiiicult to display the samples in a manner that would enable a customer to view the same at an advantage.

Therefore, the aim of the present invention is to provide a sample case in which the samples may be carried and displayed to an advantage, and in a convenient manner, and also that will afford easy handling yof the samples and the transportation of the same from one point to another.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a sample case of this character which is simple in construction, strong, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture.

lith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the case. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view through the case.

Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the auxiliary display sample carrier. Fig. 6 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of groups of sample design fabrics and the fasteners therefor. Fig. 7 is an enlarged fragmentary, vertical, sectional view thereof, showing the stud and the socket connection therefor.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, the sample case comprises a flexible striplike body 5 which is of any desirable length and width, and is formed with an outer leather covering 6, and an inner felt lining 7, the marginal edge of the covering 6 being inturned onto the lining 7 at the marginal edge thereof and stitched thereto in any suitable manner. One end of the body 5- is rolled and has its edge fastened in any suitable manner to provide a cylindrical core 8 forming a pocket to receive a removable stiffened roll 9, in which is adapted to be placed a fashion book, order book, and other accessories to be used by a drummer, solicitor, or salesman when taking orders.

Provided on the lining 7, near the opposite free end of the body 5, is a plurality of patch pockets 10, in which are adapted to be placed blank bank checks, business cards, circulars, and other accessories (not shown) for the convenience of the user of the case.

Fixed to the body, in spaced rows arranged transversely thereof on the lining side 7 of the same, is a plurality of resilient stud members 11, with which are detachably engaged coperative snap buttons 12 mounted upon cross straps 13, preferably constructed from leather. Carried by and suitably fastened to the cross straps 13 is a plurality of groups of fabric sample designs 14 which are tagged and labeled in the ordinary manner for the convenience of the customer and the drummer or salesman. In this instance, the groups of fabric sample designs are secured to the straps 13 by means of paper fasteners 15 of the ordinary type, the same being passed through advertising plates 16 superimposed upon the groups 14 and the straps 13 prior to the bending of the ends of the fasteners 15.

It is evident that by detaching the fasteners 15 from the straps 13 and removing such fasteners from the groups of fabric designs 14, the same will become detached, so as different fabric sample designs may be substituted in the case. Furthermore, the straps 13 and the sample may be detached from the body 5 of the case, so that a customer may carefully examine the groups of sample fabric designs carried thereby, without requiring the handling of the case.

lt is, of course, understood, that when the fabric sample designs 14 are displayed, the body 5 of the case is unrolled and laid upon a table or other support in flat condition, so that all of the sample designs therein may be examined, in a ready and convenient manner.

The body 5 has'lixcd, at a suitable point thereof against the outer cove-ring 6, a stiff cned base board or plate 1S, the same being fastened thereto in any suitable manner, and has arranged thereon a plurality of protective projections or plugs 19 which prevent wear upon the base board or plate 18 when the case is placed upon the ground, floor or the like.

lVhen it is desired to carry the case in the hand, the body 5 is rolled about the core 8 to bring the case into roll form, whereupon luggage straps Q0 are engaged with a strap handle 2l and are fastened about the rolled case, so that it may be conveniently carried in the hands ofthe user. The luggage straps 20 may be fastened to the body or detached therefrom if desired. Also the base board or plate 1S may be detached from the body 5 of the case, so that the same may be properly positioned thereon, should the user burden the carrying capacity of the case so as to enlarge the same when rolled.

Adapted to be removably inserted in the roll 9 removably fitted in the core 8 of the body 5, is an auxiliary or supplemental sample display design carrier comprising an apron 2Q, on which are fastened, in rows, groups of sample designs 23, the same being secured to the apron by detachable paper fasteners 24 in a substantially similar manner to the fastening of the groups la by fasteners 'l5 to the body 5 of the roll case.

Detachably fixed to one end of the roll 9, so as to bridge the same, is a` strap 25 which prevents the falling out of the accessories placed within the roll. rlhe auxiliary or supplemental sample carrier is rolled and placed within the roll 9 detachably fitted within the core 8, so that free accessibility is had thereto in close quarters, thereby obviating the necessity of opening the rolled case for the display of the sample designs, as those upon the auxiliary or supplemental carrier may be displayed in a ready and convenient manner.

The stacks of fabric sample designs which are fastened in rows to the inner side of the body by reason of the fact that each group or stack is fastened at its end will permit Athe rolling of the case or body 5 and likewise the groups of stacks of sample designs without causing the wrinlling of the latter or the wrinkling of the case or body. Also by reason of the manner of connection of each group of sample designs with a cross strap 13 it will be evident that any one group thereon may be detached without disturbing the other group or groups. Fun thermore, the groups mounted upon any one strap may be detached in series from the body of the case.

lWhat is claimed is:

l. rlllie combination with a flexible body forming a sample case, of stud members fixed to the inner face of the body in spaced relation thereto and transversely of the same, straps having socket'i'nembers engage able with the stud members, and means detachably connected with the straps and adapted for removable engagement in stacks of fabric sample designs, the said stud and socket members being arranged in alinement with each other transversely of the body to permit free flexing of the latter.

2. The combination with a flexible section adapted to be rolled, of a series of comparatively narrow straps removably secured at intervals throughout the length of the section, each. strap being secured by alined means transversely of the section, and sample attaching elements adapted for remov able connection with the straps, whereby the line of connection between the samples, strap, and section are on lines transverse of the said section to permit the rolling of the latter without wrinkling of the samples.
