To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, CHARLES A. Ho- QUEARY and LESTER A. PASSAUER, citizens of the United States, residing at Elk City, in the county of Montgomery, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Shoe Scrapers and Brushes; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in combined shoe scrapers and brushes.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a shoe scraper which is formed from a spaced pair of brackets of novel construction, each bracket including an integral spring arm for supporting a brush.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which is composed of a relatively few number of parts, is therefore simple in construction, and is cheap to manufacture.

Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claim, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device constructed in accordance with our invention, Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof, Fig. 3 is a side elevation, Fig. 4 is a central transverse sectional view, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the brushes.

Like reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings, the invention comprises a base 5 to which are attached opposed brackets A--A. Each bracket is formed from sheet steel, and consists of a pair of opposed legs 66 which are connected at their upper ends by a connecting portion 7, the legs terminating at their lower ends in outwardly directed attaching flanges Specification of Letters Patent.

88 which are secured to the support 5 by screws or any other suitable fastening means. Integral with and extending rearwardly from the forward upper end of each front leg 6 is a spring arm 9. This arm extends inwardly beyond the connecting portion 7 of the bracket, and has its free end disposed in parallel relation to said connecting portion 7 and preferably projecting beyond the rear legs 6 of the bracket.

Our invention further comprises a scraper, which is designated as a whole by the reference character B. This scraper includes a pair of opposed longitudinal plates 1010 which are rigidly connected to each other by means of rivets 11 or other suitable means. The respective ends of the plates are outwardly bent to form attaching flanges 1212, the respective pairs of flanges being centrally secured to the connecting portion 7 of the brackets A by means of bolts 13 or other suitable fastening means. This scraper is disposed vertically, and serves to rigidly connect the brackets A-A. The upper edges of the brackets 10 are inwardly curved, as indicated by the reference numerals 1414, said curved edges of the brackets conjointly form a scraping edge. Secured to the inner face of each spring arm 9 by means of screws 15 or other suitable fastening means are brushes CC. Each brush includes a back 16 and a plurality of bristles 17, the latter being preferably formed from rice roots. Centrally formed in the underside of each back 16 is a transverse slot 18 adapted to receive the scraper B.

In operation, when it is desired to scrape and brush a shoe, the wearer places his foot between the brushes C and upon the scraper B. It is to be observed that by reason of the slots 18 formed in said brushes, the lower edges of said brushes will be disposed below the upper edge of the scraper, and as a result, the sole of the shoe will be simultaneously brushed during the scraping operation thereof. By reason of the spring arms 9 shoes of various sizes may be readily brushed and scraped, as will be readily apparent.
