To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. GoonwAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sterilizing-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention refers to improvements in stlegrilizing cabinets for barbers, or for the li e.

It is intended to provide a convenient receptacle for the various articles, utensils, etc., within the separately provided receptacles, contained within an outer surrounding case, and so designed and constructed that the several contained articles will be subjected to the sterilizing effect of a suitable medium.

Generally stated, the device is in the form 1 of a cabinet, preferably composed of sheet metal and having the side walls, 2, 2, back 3, top 4 and bottom 5 of imperforate sheets or plates joined in any suitable manner, as riveting, to provide hermetically sealed joints, and the front 6, connected with the side, bottom and top by similar sealed joints.

which, when opened, is adapted to rest upon a supporting bracket 9.

Between the door 7 and the front plate 6 is an intervening packing gasket 10 of sheet rubber or other suitable material, which entirely surrounds each opening.

11. is the operating handle for the door 7, extending forwardly and downwardly in the form of an arch and provided with a suitable grip for the finger, pivotally mounted at 12 within a suitable housing in the bearing 13, and extends by a shouldered tapered latch 14 into the interior of the particular space to be covered. The said latch rests upon a cushioning spring 15 carried upon an inward extension of the housing 13 whereby it is normally pressed upwardly to hold the door closed and may be pressed to unlock by the operation of withdrawing the finger terminal 11 forwardly.

In the bottom of the casing are one or more pans 16, resting upon the bottom 5, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, upwardly above -which is located a transverse perforated partition 32' at each side of a central aperture or cavity 18 for receiving the razor strop 19. Said strop extends inwardly through a clearance aperture in the front plate 6, is provided with a hand pull 20, and flange 21 for making a hermetically sealed joint. The strop proper passes around a bearing pulley or roller 22 mounted upon a bearing pin 23 at the rear of the cavity 18 and adjacent to the back 3 of the case, and then extends upwardly by its inner portion a sufiicient distance to accommodate the entire remaining length of the strop. At such point 24 it is connected with a strip of canvas or other suitable material 25, and said strip passes around a similar supporting pulley or wheel 27 carried in a bracket 26 upon pin 28, said bracket being supported from the top of the case by a tension spring 29. The canvas strip 25 extends downwardly at the other side of wheel 27, as shown, and is fixedly secured at 30 in any suitable manner. The strop thus occupies the horizontal chamber or space 18 and the vertical rear chamber 18, which is an upward extension thereof, and is in direct communication with the sterilizing vapor rising from the contents of the pan or pans 16.

At each side of the strop are the drawers 31, each of which is provided with a finger grip and latch similar to that shown in Fig. 7, said drawers being in the path of upward circulation of the sterilizing vapor, and having their bottoms formed of perforated metal wire screen or the like, so that the contents may be entirely surrounded by the circulating vapor.

Located above the drawers 31 and the strop cavity 18 are comparatively large compartments inclosed within bottom, back and top walls 32, 33 and 34, similarly perforated, having front opening and closing doors 35, provided with similar locking latches and also preferably having glass fronts. Above said main compartments, are a plurality of comparatively small compartments 36, 37 and 38, respectively, rows of each of said compartments extending horizontally across the entire area of the case from its front 6 to the back 3, except where necessarily somewhat shorter by reason of the intervening vertical strop cavity 18. Each of said compartments 36, 37 and 38 is bounded within suitable horizontal partitions of perforated sheet metal or wire screen or the like, and vertical imperforatepartitions 39 and each compartment is also provided with a drop door 7 having the latch extension 11 as above described.

As thus constructed, the casing is, adapted for use for the separate isolated storage of the various articles. For instance, the upper row of compartments 38 may be utilized to contain razors, suitably separated from each other by any convenient supporting frames; the compartments 37 may be utilized for shaving brushes; the compartments 36 for brushes and combs, while the larger chambers below, closed by the doors 35, may contain towels, etc., while the drawers 31 may be used for shears, clippers, or the like.

The construction and operation of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing description. It provides for the contents of each complete isolation and sterilization of the particular compartment, and is so constructed as to' contain a large number of such compartments within acomparatively limited space, while the circulation of the sterilizing vapor is rendered thoroughly complete.

Various changes in the arrangement, number, or design of the several elements or features of the cabinet may be made by the skilled mechanic, but all such are to be considered within the scope of the following claim.

What I claim is:

In a sterilizing cabinet, the combination of an air tight outer casing provided with a sterilizing medium container at its base, a plurality of transverse open wire screen partitions extending across the interior of the casing at different heights above the base, series of non-registering vertical partitions dividing the spaces between the horizontal partitions into chambers, removable receptacles in some of said chambers, a continuous vertical chamber formed within perforated vertical walls at the inner back portion of the cabinet extending from the sterilizing medium container to the top of the cabinet, upper and lower rollers at the topand bottom of said chamber, a spring support for one of said rollers, said rollers being adapted to carry a strop and fabric attached thereto in such manner as to permit the withdrawal of a portion of the strop from the cabinet when desired and to return the strop to the cabinet, byv the action of said spring support, when released.
