.RECEPTACLE FOR COLLARS R- CUFFS.
Specification of Letters I'aten t.
Patented Dec. 24, 1912.
' Application filed February 24, 1912. Serial No. 679,736.
To all whom it may concern:
Receptacles for Collars or Cufis, of which the following is a specification- Be it known that I, GRACE Bownn a' citizen of the United States of AIIIGIICH,
and a resident of Chicago,in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .My invention relates to" receptacles for collars or cuffs, particularly such as are adapted for the use of travelers, and has for its object to provide a receptacle of this character which'will efiiciently inclose and protect the collars or cuffs, admitof their easy insertion and removal, and-enable clean collars or cuffs and soiled ones to be kept in the samereceptacle or bag yet'jseparated f from each other.
. .sition.
A of each will be close to the opening C.
A specific embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which 0 I Figure 1 is a perspective-view of the bag, open for insertion or removal of collars, Fig. 2 is a cross sectionon line 2-2 of Fig. 3, drawn upon an enlarged scale, Fig. 3 is an edge view of the bag in thevopen position,
' and Fig. 4 is a similar View showing the same closed. p Slmilar letters of reference lndicate cor responding parts throughout the several figures of the drawing.
The improved collar bag is preferably made of soft, flexible material, such as cloth, so that when empty itv mayv be readily crushed or folded to ,take up very little room. The bag comprises a circular top A,
a circular bottom B, and a side wall G, con
necting them, said side wall being cylindrical when the bag is in use. At one point ofthe periphery, the side wall has an opening C through which collars (such as D) may be inserted or removed endwise. A
' flap 0 is provided to cover and close the say the clean ones, on the outside, and the others on the inside. In order tofacilitate this separation, a curved partition or divisionstrip F may be provided which subthe side wall C, for
the top A and bottom B ata distance from The partition F .projects'fthrough the opening C and constitutes an exteriorflap F project-ing beyondsaid opening and dividing it into individual ports for the re .sp'ective compartments. A fastener is provided for locking this flap tothe side wall of the box for closing the inner compart-' ment, said fastener comprising a member .G on this flap and amember G on the wall of the box. A fastener is also provided for connecting the partition flap F with the wall flap C whereby the fla -F may be used for closing the outer compartment.
aportion of its pe divides the opening C and extends between This fastener comprises a member H on the a wall flap and a member H on the partition flap. Thus the flap F may be secured'to the flap C or to the side wall C, whereby access is permitted to either one of the com partments into which the interior of the bag 1 is divided by the partition F while the other compartment is closed. One of these compartments may beused for clean collars and the other for soiled collars. Access maybe had to both compartments atthe same time by leaving the exterior flapF of the partition F free, that is to s ay, notsecured to either the fastener member of the wall flap nor to the fastener member of the box. The free flap F serves as a guide whichfacilitates the insertion of collars into either compartment. The wall flap C is preferably longer than the partition flap F and overlaps the latter.
Various modifications may be made with out departing from the nature of my invention as set forth in the appended'claims. By I properly dimensioning the bag, it may be adapted to receive cuffs instead of collars.
I-Clfl-iIIlZI'. 1 V a 1. A receptacle for collars or cuffs comprising a top,[a bottom, a peripheral side wall connecting said bottom and top and provided withan opening, and a partition: separating the interior of said receptacle into compartments, said partition beingprovided with an exterior flap extending 1 through said-opening anddividing it into individual ports for the respective compart ments and servingas a guide to either.
2. A receptacle for collars or cuffs comprising a top, a bottom,ja peripheral side wall connecting said bot-tom and top, and
provided With an opening, a partition separating the interior of said receptacle int-o compartments, said partition being provided with an exterior flap extending through said opening and dividing it into individual ports for the respective compartments, and a fastening device for locking said flap over one of said ports.
3. A receptacle for collars or cuffs comprising a top, a bottom, a peripheral side Wall connecting said bottom and top and provided with an opening and with a flap for closing said opening, a fastener for securing said flap in closed position, and a partition separating the interior of said receptacle into compartments, said partition ing provided with an exterior flap extending through said opening and dividing it into individual ports for the respective compartments and serving as a guide to either.
4. A receptacle for collars or cufl's comprising a top, a bottom, a peripheral side wall connecting said bottom and top and provided with an opening and with a flap for closing said opening, a fastener for securing said flap in closed position, a partition separating the interior of said receptacle into compartments, said partition being provided with an exterior fiap extending through said opening and dividing it into individual ports for the respective compartments, and fasteners adapted to connect said partition flap with said side wall or with said side wall flap for closing either of said compartments.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GRACE BOXVER KELLY.
