Letters Patent N6. 104,812, dated Jun 2s, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN E ERY-SOAP FOR. POLISHING ANb CLEANSING.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DEXTER D. W. ABBOTT, of Boston, in the county of Snfiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Soap; .and I do hereby declare that the following is a description of w my inventionsnfiicient to enable those skilled in the art to practice it.
My invention relates to the manufacture of a polishing or grinding-soap, acting not only by its detergent power, but by attrition, to remove dirt and produce smooth, clean surfaces. 1
Sand-soap and pumice-soap are well known, and my invention bears some relation-to'these soaps, in that I combine with the soap an abrasive mineral powder.
My improvement consists, however, in the employmeut of a native emery-powder, the particles of which,
by aqueous attrition, have become nearly uniform in size and form.
This native emery or mineral powder is composed mostly of silica, it having about ninety-three per cent. of silica, and about seven per cent of aluminum, iron,
&c.
In the preparation of the soap I use the finest grade of the emery-powder, or what might be called the flour of emery, the particles of which, though very fine,
as it is not rough or harsh upon the skin.
, I claim, as a new article of manufacture, the abrasivesoap formed with the abrading powder described.
Executed May 25, A. D. 1870.
DEXTER D. W. ABBOTT.
