Be it known that 1-, JACOB HARsEN, citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the'county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tube-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tube cleaners, more particularly, it belongs to that class of cont-rivances designed to loosen and remove scale from the interior of steam boiler tubes, and especially, to that type of cleaners provided with reciprocating scrapers or tools.
The object of this invention is the production of a tube cleaner of the character stated comprising parts having each a certain construction and relation or arrangement with regard to the other parts, whereby it is believed a more effective and convenient appliance results than is ordinarily found on The construction and arrangement of parts are illustrated inthe accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1 represents the section lengthwise of a part of a tube with this invention shown therein, also partly in section. \Vithin the tube A, and attached to steam pipe 13 by way of which water or steam may be served, is a motor C provided with an encircling extension 0 movably fitting the tube interiorly and acting as a guide as the motor is moved forward into tube A.
The mouth of the motor casing is threaded as shown and engages the cylinder 1). Fitting movably in cylinder 1) is the rotary cylinder E, provided with the. cam groove 0 and usually formed integrally with the motor shaft F. 011 the left the cylinder D, relatively the stationary cylinder, is closed by the head plate (Z and the end f of the motor shaft passes centrally through the head to steady the operation of the motosz.
i The cylinder D'carries a number of chisels G, and each chisel has-a'block portion provided with guide grooves g that engage the suitable longitudinal recesses formed usually at equal distances apart in cylinder D. Each chisel G is provided with a roller J constructed and arranged to engage the cam groove in the rotary cylinder E. The driving fluid entering the motor by way of the.
pipe'B, passe-s out of the motor G into the cylinder D and thence by way of the orifices K and j, the fluid continues through the rotary cylinder and the. head (Z of the station ary cylinder and washes the chippings and other detached particles from the tube A. The recesses in the cylinder D in which the chisels G are located, as will be noted in Fig. 1 are open recesses and extend lengthwise from the left hand edge of the cylinder. The recesses are marked 7c. When the motor C is put in operation, the rotary cylinder, by reasons of the engagement of the wall of its cam groove 6' with the rollers J of the Chisels, works those chisels rapidly back and forth in contiguity with the interior of tube A, and any accumulated scale is detached. The whole invention is advanced or with drawn from tube A, or turned therein by suitably manipulating the pipe A.
Having now described this invention, and explained the mode of its operation, what I claim is:-
1. In a tube cleaner, the combination with a member provided with tool-guiding devices, of a plurality of cutting tools engaging said guidingvdevices, the saidguiding devices being constructed to guide the tools lengthwise with respect to said member, a motor, and means actuated by the motor and constructed to reciprocate the tools and to rotate said memberat the same time.
2. In a tube cleaner, the combination with a motor, of a member connected with the motor and provided with recesses extending lengthwise parallel with the axis of the said member, cutting tools having port-ions constructed to inovably engage the recesses of said member, the sai recesses and tools be ing provided with guiding tongues and a motor, of a hollow member connected with tongues H and it formed on the. sides of the motor and provided with recesses extending lengthwise, cutting tools having portions constructed to niovably engage the recesses of said member, the said recesses and tools being provided with guiding tongues and grooves, a rotary cylinder located with- II )ortion constructed and arranged to en- 16 l in said member and connected with said Witnesses:
