Specification of Letters Patent. Original application filed December 13, 1906, Serial No. 347,577.
Patented Dec. 17, 1912. Divided and this application led February 28, 1912. Serial No. 680,498.
To all whom 'it may concern:
' Be it known that I, JOHN SCHADE, J r., a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county 'p of Kings, lcity and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Fastening Devices, of
' which the following is a specification, acco1npanied by drawings.
This invention relates t spring terminal 'clips-or fastening deviceslfor the terminals of electric conductors, an the objects of the invention are to'improve upon .the construction of such devices, and enable aspring terminal clip formed out of wire to be firmly securedlto a bagseorsupport.
This application is a division of pending"`application, Serial No.- filed December 13, 1906. l
Further objects 'of the invention will hereinafter appear and t0 all of these ends the my co- 347,577,
invention consists of the fastening devicev substantially as hereinafter fully described and claimed in this specification and shown in one of its' preferred forms in the accompanying drawing, which vis a perspective view of the fastening `device embodying the. invention, secured to a base or support.
My improved` fastening. device is preferably made from a single piece of resilient material, asfor instancemetallic wire, al-
'comprised of a single piece of wire.
The fastening device comprises broadly two opposing normally separated members, and a retaining resistant portion of suitable shape projecting toward the opposite mem- -ber and adapted to co-act therewith to firmly clamp a conductor in defined position when said. members are forced into operative relationship. `In order to construct two opposing normally separated members, the piece of wire, if the device is made from one piece, is bent upon itself to bring one member opposite the other and the two legs A may be termed the body member. Bot-h of these legs are adapted to be securedto a base or support I, and inorder to accomplish this purpose effectively and in the best manner, the ends of the wire are coiled into rings I-I, to form a securing eye through which the screw J is passed to hold the'device firmly upon the base or support I. Thebody memberis thus fixed stationary upon the base or support, while the opposing member comprising the legs B is adapted to be forced out of its normal position'toward the body member, from which it tends to separate under the retract-ive force of the spring, thus enabling a conductor K to be firmly gripped and clamped in defined position in the member AB and in the stationary resistant or retaining portion comprising', the bent portions C extending upwardly from the legs A. .Y The wire as shown is looped on itself to form a' spring at D and one end E of the spring member is bent in the reverse direc'- tion to the loop D to form with the bend of the loop an angular retaining portion- The other conducting wire L which .com-v pletes the circuit may be suitably secured in electrical contact with the screw J as by means of the binding nuts O.
While I have shown but one preferredv lform of the invention, the wire may obvibe bent into different forms without ously departing from the spirit of the invention,
provided the fastening device has rings H forming an eye at its securing end.
. I claim and desire toobtain by Letters Patent the following:
1. A fastening device for electrical-conductors, formed 4of bent spring wire and having at its securing 4end rings forming an eye l A fastening device for electrical 'conductors, formed of bent spring wire, the
ends -of the wire being coiled into rings to form a securing eye.
In 'testimony whereof I have signed this I specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. l
