Description
A. GIAGOMETTI. DEVICE APPLICABLE TO LOOKS FOR WEDGING THE BARS 0F DOORS.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 8, 1911.

DEVICE APPLICABLE TO LOCKS FOR WEDGING THE BARS DOORS.
I Specification of Letters Patent. l Application filed June 8, 1911." Serial No. 632,026.
Patented Dec. 17, 1912 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANDRES GIAooME'r'rI, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at 90 Route de Gonesse, Stains, Seine, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Device Applicable to Looks for Wedging theBars of Doors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Various systems for closing doors are employed, including wedging bars immovably held in their operative position by the action of the lock. These systems necessitate complicated mechanical arrangements, as well as the use of special locks difiering altogether from the ordinary types, so that they have not been adopted as extensively as they should be.
This invention has reference to a system for wedging the bars of doors, characterized by its simplicity and itsreliable working. It can be applied to any ordinary lock, and when a person is leaving a building, permits of wedging the bar of the door, by the closing movement of the lock.
I will now describe the invention with refe erence to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1, is a front elevation of the device in combination with an ordinary lock.
Fig. 2 is aside elevation and across section of the invention. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a modification of the device partly in section and Fig. 4, is a side elevation, partly in section. The various parts of the device are referred to by letters, similar letters denoting corresponding parts in the several views. I
The wedging device, according to the drawing, consists of a'ring-like member 42, provided with a vertical aperture or eye I), intended to receive the upper part of the bar O, and fastened to'the casing of the lock. The bar C is of known construction and forms a stay, by resting, for example, against the ground or floor, either by means of a joint, or'by merely engaging a notch. Asshown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, the bar C has also a transverse opening through it in alinement with the transverse opening'in the member a. The bar C, slides n the aperture 1), on the opening and closmg movements of the door, without, however,-passing out of the aperture, its length being calculated so that oncethe door is closed, its upper extremity d .more or less exactly alines with the upper surface of the part a. 1
' Adjacent the ring-like member a,.the casing a is provided with an opening f, disclosin the dormant bolt g, to which is secured a splndle j, which projects directly out from the bolt as at K, and is" then bent horizontally to engage the openings in the parts a and C. v V v If the spindle 7', isbent laterally closeto the look, as seen in Figs. 3 and hthe upper part of the bar C may be provided with a recess 1', which is engaged by the spindle 7'. This construction constitutes a slight modification of the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2; the recess 2', serving the same purpose as the opening through the bar, as there illustrated.
I do not confine myself tothe exact construction as herein shown and described, but
desire to vary the construction, within the meaning of the claims, and without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim is:
1. In a lock, a casing having an oblong opening through its side, a dormant bolt confronting said opening, a spindle on said bolt projecting through said opening and bent at a right angle toward the front of the lock, a ring-like projecting guide on the outside of said casing adjacent its oblong opening and having a transverse aperture therethrough, a bar adapted to be braced at its lower end and having a transverse aper ture near its upper end, said upper end adapted to engage said guide, and'said spin dle being adapted to engage said apertures in said guide and said bar when said door is locked and to be disengaged from said apertures when said door is unlocked.
2. In a look a casing having'an opening through its side, a dormant'bolt confronting a said opening, a spindle on said bolt project-ing through said opening and bent todoor is locked and to be disengaged there- 10 Ward the front of the lock, a ring-like, profrom, when said door is unlocked.
jecting guide on the outside of said casing In testimony whereof I aifix my'signature. adjacent said opening, a bar adapted to be braced at its lower end and having a recess ANDRES GIACOMETTI near its upper end, and said upper end In the presence of adapted to engage said guide, and said spin- H. O. Come, dle adapted to engage said aperture in said EUGENE W. BOUGJ J, guide and said recess in said bar When said GEORGES VILLEBEssUPs.
