To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, EDWIN J. NELSON and HARRY WATKINS, citizens of the United States, residing at Utica, in the count-y of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new .and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

Our invention relates to a table, and we declare the following to be a full, clear, concise and exact description thereof sufficient to enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the specification.

The object of the invention is to provide a table having a reversible top whereby one side thereof may be covered with felt adapted for use in card playing and the reverse side may be of a suitable finish for use as a serving table.

The legs of the table are provided with rollers whereby the table may be rolled from the serving room into the parlor or else where. Such a table is desirable, especially where the table is designed to serve in both of the capacities named to avoid the destruction of the felt covering the surface of a card table, by the spilling of stains thereon. In the present instance the felt covered surface can be reversed and therefore completely protected.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspec tive View of the table, showing the serving surface uppermost; Fig. 2 is a plan view from beneath, showing the table in folded position; Fig. 3 is a detail enlarged of a bracket employed; Fig. 4 is a detail enlarged, in perspective, of and correlated parts, showing the range of position of a certain part; Figs. 5 and 6 are respectively enlarged details, showing a front and a side elevation of a leg bracket; Fig. 7 is a perspective detail enlarged of a bracket supporting a link; Fig. 8 is a detail enlarged, in perspective, of a bracket and hook employed; Fig. 9 is a transverse section of the table top on line 99 of Fig. 2.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the table top 1 is adapted to have one surface 2 for playing cards and the reverse side 3 adapted for a serving table. Surface 2 is preferably covered with felt which may be a sheet thereof or small fragments, as waste suitably compressed and held to said surface by glue or like substance. The serving surface 3 is made plain with a covering of varnish and has a peripheral shoulder 4 raised a little above the surface in order to keep the dishes from accidentally sliding off the table. At one end of the table top 1 there is secured journal brackets 55 adapted for the pivotal mounting of links 66 having shoulders 77 whereby to engage with a lug 8 integral with member 9 secured by bolts or screws 10 to legs 1111.

The remote end of table top 1 is provided with brackets 12-12 having integral there with eyes 13 whereby to engage hooks 14 secured in a suitable manner to the other pair of legs 1515. Said hooks 14 comprise knubs 23 whereby to engage the under edge of eyes 13 and thereby securely lock hooks 14 in position, so that the accidental raising of table top 1 will not release hooks 14 from eyes 13 and thus allow the table to collapse, immediately the raising force is removed. Legs 11 and 15 may have a curved shape as seen in Fig. 2 in order to dispose the portions in contact with the floor at such a position that will be convenient for a person sitting up to the table.

Legs 15-15 are provided with rollers 17 at either end, and legs 11 are provided with rollers 18 journaled in brackets 2l21, secured to said legs. Legs 11 and 15 are suitably braced by bars 1919 and rods 20, and are fulcrumed upon bar 22.

In Fig. 9 there is shown a transverse section of top 1. Surface 2 comprises a plurality of pieces of felt waste which are confined between peripheral shoulder 4, as a side and base 3 which in this instance may Table top 1 may be rebe a stiff piece of pasteboard. The pieces of fabric are held to the pasteboard by glue after having been pressed into position, whereupon the surface is made smooth by the employment of sand paper rollers.

Having thus described our invention, what We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a table, the combination of a top, a pair of legs pivotally connected with said top, a second pair of legs fulcrumed upon the first pair, said pivotal connection of the first pair of legs with the table top comprising links having shoulders adapted to engage lugs secured to said first pair of legs, whereby said table top may be held in normal horizontal position, and said second pair of legs having hooks at each end to engage eyes secured to said table top, whereby to support said table top in horizontal position, eyes in the edge of the top to engage said hooks.

2. In a table, a top having brackets at opposite edges, a pair of legs with one end of each hinged to the brackets on one edge of the top, a second pair of legs pivoted to the former pair and having at each end a caster and a hook adapted to engage the corresponding bracket on the free edge of the top.
