Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 19, 1912. Serial No. 704,479.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, CLYDE BITTER, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Brldgeton, in the county of Cumberland and State of New Jersey, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Condiment- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in condiment holders, the, object of the invention being to provide a condiment holder in which the condiment may be readily ejected. regardless of the condition of the same.
A further object is to provide a condiment holder in which a rotary agitator is provided and which is adapted to be turned by the movement of a rotary false bottom on the closed end of the condiment holder to agitate the condiment and also force it through the perforated end of a condiment holder.
A further object is to provide a condiment holder of this character which permits of the ejection of the condiment without the necessity of shaking the condiment holder.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims. 1

Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view, and Fig. 4 is a View in elevation on an enlarged scale of the journal 7 My improved condiment holder comprises a body 1 screw-threaded at one end to receive a removable perforated cap 2, and at its other end closed by a bottom 3.
4, represents a false bottom having a circular flange 5 which bears against the bottom 3, and is confined by the inwardly turned edges 6 of the side walls of body 1. This false bottom is connected to the main bottom and held in operative relationship thereto by means of a journal 7. j
The bottom 3 is provided centrally with a circular bearing 8 in which a circular portion 9 of journal 7 is adapted to turn, a flange 11 being provided on said journal located against the inner face of the bottom 3 and limiting the movement of the journal in one direction.
False bottom 4 is provided centrally with opening 12 through which the an angular angular portion13 of journal 7 is projected, so that the journal and the false bottom 4 are compelled to turn together. On the lower end of thejournal 7, a conical head 14 is provided. In back of said head 14, the journal is reduced in diameter forming a neck 15 of less diameter than the head 14. When this journal is forced through the false bottom 4, its conical head 14 is forced through the central opening in a spring plate 16. This spring plate 16, around its central opening, is provided with a series of radial slits 17 so that aplurality of spring tongues are provided which spring into contact with the restricted neck 15, and tension is exerted on the plunger by reason of a plurality of radial spring arms 18 on the spring plate 16 which bear against the under face of false bottom 4.
The upper end of journal 7 located within the body 1 is made angular as shown at 19 to enter an angular opening 20 in a central hub 21 on one end of an agitator 22. This agitator comprises a plurality of bowed arms which are positioned radially with relation to each other, and in close proximity to the side wall of body 1. The agitator is of such alength that its upper end is in close proximity to the perforated cap 2, and when the body portion is held at an incline or horizontal, and the false bottom turned, the agitator will cause the condiment to move to the perforated cap and be ejected therethrough without the necessity of shaking the body. Where the condiment is damp and the particles stick together, they can be readily broken up by the movement of the agitator and the condiment ejected regardless of its condition.

The circular bearing 8 and the opening 12 are formed by stamping the metal, so that flanges are formed around the openings to give strength and extended bearing surface to the walls of the opening as seen most clearly in Fig. 1.
In assembling the device, journal 7 is projected through the bearing 8, and then through the opening 12 in false bottom 4 and forced through the central opening in spring plate 16. The agitator may be positioned on the angular end 19 of the journal, and when the cap 2 is screwed in place, the device is ready for use.

A condiment holder comprising a body, a journal projected through the bottom of thebody, a fiangeon the journal positioned agains't'the inner face of the bottom, a spring exerting a longitudinal pull on the journal pressing the flange against the bottom, an agitator constructed to turn with the journal and located inside of the body, and a false bottom on the body constructed to turn the journal, substantially as described.
2. A condiment holder comprisinga body, a journal projected through the bottom of the body, an agitator constructed to turn with the journal and located inside of the body, a false bottom on the body constructed to turn the journal, said journal having a conical head and a restricted neck portion plate having an opening and radial slits to receive the conical'head and grip the neck portion of the journal, substantially as described.

A condiment holder comprising a body, a journal projected through the bottom of the body, an agitator constructed to turn with the journal and located inside of the body, a false bottom on the body constructed to turn the journal, said journal having a conical head and a restricted neck portion at its lower end, a spring plate having an opening and radial slits to receive the conical head and grip the neck portion of the journal, said spring plate having a plurality of radial arms bearing against the under ing therein, a false bottom, a circular flangeon the false bottom positioned against the bottom, said false bottom having a central angular opening therein, a journal mounted to turn in the .bearing in the bottom, and having an angular portion located in the angular opening in the false bottom, a flange on the journal positioned against the inner face of the bottom, an angular end on said journal within the body, an agitator, and'a hub on said agitator having an angular opening receiving the last-mentioned angular end, substantially as described.
5. A condiment holder comprising abody, a bottom on the body having a central bearing therein, a false bottom, a circular flange on the false bottom positioned against the bottom, said false bottom having a central angular opening therein, a journal f mounted to turn in the bearing in the bottom and having an angular portion located in the angular opening in the false bottom, a flange on the journal positioned against the inner face of the bottom, an angular end on said journal within. the body, an
agitator, a hub on said agitator having an angular opening receiving the last-mentioned angular end, a conical head on the lower end of said journal, a restricted neck back of said head, and. a springplate through which said head is projected engaging the neck portion of the journal and bearing against the under face of the falsebottom, substantially as described. 7
