HANOVER, GERMANY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 3, 1912.
Application filed February 20, 1912. Serial No. 678,889.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL MEYER, subject of the German Emperor, residing at Hanover, in the Empire of Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Drawing or Marking Lines on earing-Apparel, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in apparatus for drawing or marking lines on wearing apparel of the type described in Patent No. 996,996. In the apparatus described in the above patent the marking arm is in the form of a slotted radial tube which is adjustable on an upright support fixed on a heavy stand. It is in many cases rather diflicult to operate accurately with this apparatus. To get a clear sharp line it is necessary to bring the material close up to the tube directly over the length of the slot. When the tube is arranged radially to the upright the material near the stand is not distinctly and definitely marked owing to the stand being somewhat in the way. The marking powder, such as chalk, which passes out from the axial slot on the tube does not fall on the proper places so that both erroneous and ill-defined lines result.
According to the present invention the slotted tube is supported on two radiating arms so as to lie tangentially to the stand and upright with the axial slot at the side of the tube remote from the stand, while the radiating arms are inclined to a horizontal plane.
The invention will be more readily understood from the following description of one convenient form shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the apparatus showing the adjustable sleeve with inclined radiating arms in two possible positions. Fig. 2 is a plan of the apparatus, while, Fig. 3 is a view looking on the slotted side of the marking tube.
In carrying the invention into effect according to the form shown in the drawings, the stand is constructed of a base part a, of
suitable material and an upright b. The upright b, is composed of separate sections threaded into one another as at 70. Any con venient and suitable number of sections may be employed. A tubular sleeve 0, fits over the stand 6, and this sleeve may be clamped by means of any suitable clamping device such as a clamping screw m. From the sleeve 0, there radiate two arms cl, which are inclined to one another, and to a horizontal plane, so that when the sleeve 0, is reversed the arms 01, may incline downwardly as shown at the foot of Fig. 1, or upwardly as shown at the top of Fig. 1. In this way the range of the lines which may be marked on the garment is increased. The ends of the arms d, are provided with openings in which a slotted tube f, is supported. The arms d, are of such a length that the tube f, as shown in Fig. 2, is clear of the base, a, of the stand over its entire length. The tube f, is also in this way supported in a tangential position to the stand so as to enable the garment to be brought close up to the slot on the tube. One end of the tube is closed by means of a plug 9, while the other end is connected. by a flexible connection it, to a rubber or like press ball 2'. The tube f, is supported in the arms (Z, with its axial slot Z, facing away from the stand, as can be seen in Fig. 3.
By means of this invention it will be seen that a clear and definite line may be drawn by ejecting the marking powder through the axial slot Z, upon the garment which may be brought close up to the tube f, over the whole length of the slot Z. Furthermore, the range of the lines which may be marked by this device is greater than the length of the upright b, owing to the reversible nature of the sleeve 0.
I claim:
An apparatus for marking lines on wearing apparel comprising a base, an upright fixed to said base, a reversible sleeve slidable over said upright, arms rigid with said sleeve and radiating therefrom, said arms being inclined to a horizontal plane, a tube having an axial slot therein and supported in said arms tangentially to said base and In testimony whereof I have signed upright to expose its slot at the side remote name to this specification in the presence of from the said upright, a flexible connection tWo subscribing Witnesses.
to one end of said slotted tube, means for KARL MEYER. 5 closing the other end of said slotted tube Witnesses: I and means for injecting a marking powder HEINRICH VMGRLINS,
through said flexible connection. CARL SCHNEIDER.
