Be it known that I, Bonus SrAuLDiNe MERRILL, of Hyde Park county of Norfolk and State of Mas.- sachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Argand and other likeLamp-Burners; andI hereby declare the followingto bea full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanyiugdrawing, in whicha Figure 1 is a sectional view of an Argand or roundwick burner, made in accordance with ,myiuveution;

- In order to manufacture the burner cheaply, and at the same time to render it very durable, and give it a I form the perforated-base I) and isfirst struck up into a suitable cup or dish-form, and

The springs and base are thus formed solidly, and without a seam, fromthe same piece'of metal, and, being produced entirely by machinery, arebetter and much more quickly made, and present a more highly finished appearance, than were they made separately and afterwards soldered together;

This ring may-also be inclined a little upward, as shown in fig. 1, so as'to act in some sort as a' deflector, directing the air which enters through the base toward the flame; and I can form upon the ring, projections or ridges 0, upon which the chimney will rest, so as to leave, between the base of the chimney and through which the air can enter burner. There would thusbe two currents of air in the mainportion of the ring, spaces from the sides of the the burner, the one entering above the ring and the other below it, the latter being directed toward the wick by the inclination of the ringl Having now described my invention, and the manner in which the same is or may be carried into efiect, 'WhatI claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
