Description

N6. 104,612. BATENTED JUNE 21, 1870.
0. F. MARTINE.
' TUU-K OREASING MECHANISM FOR (SEWING MACHINES.
A wf ne n a'aw.
I U I -T TAT'ES PATENT FFrcn.
OHARLES F.MARTl-NE, or nos'roN, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEM T INTUICK-CREVASING MECHANISM FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
To whom itmay concern} Be it known that LCHARLES FTMARTINE,
X of Boston, county of Suffolk, an'dState of Massachusetts, have inventedan Improved Tuck Marker for Sewing-Machines and I do hereby declare the iollowing-to be a full, clear, and i exact description thereofifreference being had to theaccompan yin g drawing, in whieh i Figure 1 represents. a sewing-machine with myimprovementsattached. Figs. 2 and 3 are detailed views. w T i i Theobjeet of my invention is to produce a tuck-markerwhich can; be attached readily to a sewing-machine, and whichwill efliciently do the work required, while it will be not onlya 1 cheap in. constrnctiombut durable; and the natureof my invention consists in an elastic cushion, so constructed as to be easily adjusted to the' needle-bar of a sewing-machine; and .y a marker or jcreaser, upon which the elastic cushion presses with; the action of the needlebar; anda gage, iin combination with the creasingdeviee; anda device for adjusting the heightof the creases.
In the; drawing-{An Brepresent a sewingmachine, for. example. D is the needle-bar.
, G is an elas'tieeushion. It may be of rubber, 1 leather, springs, or any elastic construction.
. Itis held inaclamp,E,which extends beyond thecushion, formingthesocketH. Thissocket is the means bywhich the cushion is attached to theneedle-bar; 1 u I Gr is a gage, and is part of plate K. The
rod S, one end of which isbent and flattened to .formthe creaser L, isadjustable by means i of clampsa aandthumb-screw m, which also. jj serves to regulate the gage G. 3 isa device for raisingor lowering the creaser L, and is adjusted to the shank of L,

so that it can be moved under L, and thus raise. or lower the creaser. This is desirable when the elastic cushion does not come down upon the creaser with suflicientibrce. The rod S being round and turning with ease in clamps a a, readily admits of this raising and lowering The operation of my tucker is very simple, and is readily understood from t'hedcscfiption of the parts given above.
I; am aware that there is no particular novelty in the gage G, nor .do I claim any; but,
Having fully described my'invention, what Iclaimlas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with the creasing-edge L, of the elastic cushion 0, socket E, and needle-bar D, ,when arranged .as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of elastic cushion C, nee- (lle-bar D, creaser L, gage G, plate K,clamps a. a, and the plate of a sewing-machine, all constructed, arranged, and operating substantially in the manner herein described.
In testimon y whereof I have signed my" name to this specification in the presence of two sub- CHAS. F, MARTINE. Witnesses: 1 CARROLL D. WRIGHT,
AUsTIN S. HOWARTTL.
