lie it known that- 1, James l dimension, a citizen of the Jnited'Statcs, residing at Kalamazoo, h'lichigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Signs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in signs.

The main objects of this invention are to provide in a. sign in which the sign indicia or characters are formed of lenses illuminated by lamps, an improved lens by which spot lights are effectively obviated. Further, to provide an improved means for securing the lenses of such structures in which the parts are economically produced and easily and quickly assembled.

Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description tofollow.

l accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.

The invention is clearly pointed out in the claims.

T his ohviates the necessity for the use of shields,

and the necessity of great care in the placing of the lamps relative to the lenses, and further, the lenses transmit a uniform amount of light, thus greatly adding to the appearance of the sign. Owing to the pyramidal form of the shank, care of the adjustment of the lens in the openings is not required, as there is no necessity for adjusting the lenses to bring the refracting surfaces into position relative to the lamp.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A sign comprising a face plate of sheet metal containing a substantially circular opening, a clip-like lug folded over the edge of the opening, and a lens provided with a shoulder arranged to contact with the side of the plate and with a shank having a thread-like lug engaging rib spaced from and parallel with the shoulder, there being a'space between the ends of the rib adapted to receive said lug, one end of the rib being curved toward the end of the shank.

2. A sign comprising a face plate of Sheet metal containing a substantially circular opening and provided with a lug projecting into the circle of said opening, and a lens provided with a shoulder arranged to contact with the side of the plate and with a shank having a thread-like rib spaced from and parallel with said shoulder, there being a space between the ends of the rib adapted to receive said lug, one end of the rib being deflected toward the end of the shank.

3. A sign comprising a face plate of sheet metal containing a substantially circular opening; a clip like lug folded from the edge of the opening; and a lens provided with a shoulder arranged to contact with my hand and seal in the presence of two wit nesses.
