Description
0. A. LEWIS.
LIGHT ATTACHMENT FOR FIREARMS.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 18, 1912.
Patented Nov. 26, 1912.
HTTUENEY STATES PATENT OFFICE:
CLIFFORD A. LEWIS, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
LIGHT ATTACHMENT FOR FIREARMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1912.
Application filed March 18, 1912. Serial No. 684,655.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLIFFORD A. LEWIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Light Attachments for Firearms, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to light attachments for fire arms, and is especially designed as an improvement upon the attachment disclosed in my former application and covered by Patent No. 982,280.
A further object is to provide a light supply at any convenient place and to provide means for utilizing same in the various makes of guns, and for controlling the duration of the light.
I accomplished these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is an elevation of a gun with the stock partly broken away, showing an attachment carrying an electric battery, with means for connection with a lamp.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 1 represents a gun barrel, having secured thereto the adjustable hangers 2 and 3 in which is supported the tubular member 6 of a light attachment, in the forward portion of which is provided a lens 5 adapted to focus the rays of light coming from the lamp 9 in the rear end thereof, upon a desired spot, to be determined by the adjustment of said hangers. Connected with said lamp by means of the plug 8, are the circuit wires 4 and 7 which are inclosed in the casing 10 and held by the brackets 12, by means of the screws 11 upon the lower portion of the gun and which enter within the stock 20, at the upper end thereof. The wire 4 terminates at 13, a short distance within the stock, and wire 7 which is covered by the insulation 19, extends to the terminal connection 22 to which the end 27 is fixed, in the non-conducting block 24, in the butt of the stock. Adjacent the socket 22 is another socket 21 to which is attached a wire having a terminal eye 18 in which is engaged a switch 14, which is held normally above the terminus 13 of the wire 4, by means of bracket 16 secured to the stock by means of screws 17.
A casing 25 conforming in design and material is fitted upon the butt of the stock I Patent, is
stock by means of steel straps 30 held in place thereon by means of screws 29.
By pressure of the thumb upon the push button 15 the switch will contact with the terminal 13 of the wire 4 and thereby energize the lamp 9 so as to produce a light which will be focused at the point where the ball will strike, when the parts are in proper adjustment.
It must be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction or arrangement of mechanical devices herein shown, as they may be varied and modified according to the skill and judgment of a mechanic, without altering any essential operation, departing from any principle or sacrificing the advantages of my invention.
Having thus described my invention so that others skilled in the art to which it pertains may make and use the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 1. In a fire arm, a light attachment, comprising a lamp suitably mounted thereon, an extension fitted upon and conforming to the stock of said arm, circuit wires connected with said lamp and embedded in said stock, each being provided with a terminal socket, an electric battery concealed in said extension, and binding posts fixed upon said battery and adapted for engagement in said sockets, for establishing a current to energize said lamp.
2. In a fire arm, a light attachment, comprising a lamp suitably mounted thereon, circuit wires having therein a switch connected with said lamp and embedded in the stock of the arm, each being provided with a terminal socket, an extension fitted upon said stock, an electric battery mounted there- 1n, binding posts connecting the battery with said sockets, for establishing a current to energize the lamp, and a thumb button in the gun stock for closing said switch.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
