Be it known that I, Gnonen HAnnr King of Great and resident of 84 Bismarck ave- ..invented certain new. and useful Improvements in Floor-Polishers or the Like, of
.' which the following is a specification.
,floor polisher's' or the like, as described in The invention relates to improvements in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings that form part of the'same.
The invention consistsessentially of the novel arrangement and construction of parts, whereby .a weight having a textile polishing cover secured. thereover and a flexible handle connected thereto is pulled over the surface it is desired to polish, in
sweeps.
The objects of the invention are to pro- I Vide a floor polisher which will be inexpensive to construct, and which will eificiently' polish a floor with a. minimum amount of labor.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional perspective view of the invention. Fig. 2
' is a sectional perspective view of a modi- 30 fied form of the invention. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the band for securing the textile material in position on the modified form, as shown in'Fig. 2.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is a weight or form made of cast iron or other suitable material, preferably circular in form, and
having the circumferential shoulder 2 and the recess 3 formed on the upper side thereof,. and the recess 4 in the underside thereof.
' '5is a sheet of resilient material prefer- 8 are butterfly nuts screwing onto the.
securely upper ends ofthestud pins 6, and
fastening the plate 7'to the weight 1.
i 7, and I securely FLOOR-POLISHER on THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patnted N 26, 1912, Application filed March 30, 1911.
Serial No. 618,018.
p 9 is a swivel link connection secured eccentrically to the plate 7, the recess 3 2.0-
icommodating the swivel where it extends through said plate 7 to be secured thereto,
10 is a rope or other flexible connection having one end thereofconnected to the swivel link 9.
11 is a handle secured to the other end of.
the rope 1 0. v
12 is a piece of textile material completely enveloping the under side of the weight 1 and the flexible sheet of material'5, and having the edge thereof brought under the plate clamped to the weight thereby.
When using the invention the operator grasps the handle 11 and pulls the'polisher over the floor or other surface in sweeps through the medium of the rope" 10, The bodily onward motion of the polisher oarries it beyond the operator, and thus it. is
pulled from one side to the other, the eccentric connection of the handle always having a tendency to rotate the polisher. The teats extending from the sheet of rubber 5 press the textile material evenly over any uneven surface which may occur in the floor, so that a uniform and excellent polish is secured.-
In the modified form of'the invention illustrated in Fig' 2 of'the drawings,'42 is a metal casting circular in form with a flat bottom and a-slightlyrounded top. 43 is a square socket hole in the top of the metal casting 42 .for the purpose hereinafter described. 13 and 1 1 are annular grooves around the circular face of the metal casting 42,. 15 is a padding secured to the bottom of the metal casting by a covering 16, which is secured around the weight by a wire or cord tied around the groove 14. 17 is a threaded orifice inthe bottom of the metal casting. 18 is ascrew inserted through the covering 16 in the center thereof and into the orifice 17 in the metalcasting, whereby the padding 15 is retained securely. in place. 19 is an outer polishing cover of textile materialgathered around the casting 12. 20 is a band which secures the outer polishing cover 19 to the casting 12 by pressing the'said cover intothe groove 13 and retaining it there. The band 20 has the orifices 21 through one end thereof. 22 is a clip finger hinged to the other end of the band 20 between the lugs 23, which extend outwardly from-said band. When the band 20 i piacedaround the outer polishing cover 19 ,andthe casting 12, and the finger 22 1s passed through one of the orifices, and then turned back against the band it presses thecover 19 into the groove 13 and securely looks it i-nthat position. 26 is the handle having a spindle 27 fitting therein at one end thereof. 28 is a spiral groove extending bolt projecting upwardly out of the afore-- said socket hole. 31 is a plate secured to the top of the metal casting 42 over the socket hole 43, and has an orifice 32 therethrough which is just large enough to permit the reduced end of the bolt 30 to pass through.
33 is a flexible shaft connection which is secured to the spindle 27 and-the reduced end of the bolt 30, whereby. the casting 42 with the polishing cover 19 is rotated by the handle as it is moved back and forth.
In this form of the invention a rotary motion is given the polisher in addition to 30 is a bolt having asquare head the sweeping movement, and the surface of the floor more quickly polished.
VVhat' I claim as my'infvention is:
1. A floorpolisher comprisng a weight, a textile fabric covering the under side of said weight, a handle and a flexible connection securedto said handle and swivelly secured to saidweight.
2. A floor polisher comprising a, weight having a resilient under side, a textile fabitic covering the under side of said weight, ,8. ha'ndle and a flexible connection secured 0 said handle and'swivelly and ec'centrically secured to said weight. i Y
3. -A floor polisher comprising'a weight, a
resilient material secured ,tothe under side of said weight, a textile polishing material covering the under side ofsaidf weight and said resilientm'aterial, means for securing the said textile material to said weight, a handle and a flexible connection between said handle and said weight; I
Signed at the'city of Toronto, in the Province of Ontario, in the Dominion-of Canada, this'16th day of March 1911.
