IMPROVEMENT IN MORTAR-MIXERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part o! the sama'.
Ifo all whom it may concern v r l.Be .it known that I, Seru WETMORE, ot' Wellsbor- Iongh, in the count-yv of Tioga and Stat-cof Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Mortar-mixing Machine 5 y and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a vert-ical section oi myim'- proved, mortar-mixing machine, the plane of sect-ion being indicated by the line x x, tig. 2;
` Figure2 is a plan or top view of the same.
Figure 3 is a detail ,side view of a section of the Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.-
lhcobject of this invention is to construct a machine by which mortar for building purposes can be more completely mixed and tempered than' can be done by the ordinary manual process'.
Y The invention consists in the use of an apparatus by means of which the mortar can, on a circular' bed, he,mostthoroughly mixed, and displaced in vlarger quantities, and with less difficulty, than by the ordinary method.
'lhe invention consists, also, in a novel construction of the rim of the bed, the said rim being made in sections, that are locked together, so as to be removable, as, hereinafter more fully described.
A in the drawing represents the. circularbed of my improved mixingmachine.
`B is the circular rim or 'border of the same. The rim is composed of a series of sections, a a, each section consisting of a number of upright staves or boards, that are, heldtogether by ribs or horizontal bandsbb..
Each-section is'v provided with two or more downward-projecting pins or tenons, VC G, which tit into apertures provided in, thebed A, to hold the sections in place.
The several sections are, furthermore, locked together by means of straps d d, as shown.'
From thc center of the bed projects a vertical xed pin or shaft, C. to which the sweeps!) and E are hung onse.
The sweep D extends from one vside of thepin C, and carries aA frame, F, from which, in downwardlprojecting brackets e c, a horizontal shaft isrsuspended.
Upon .this shaft are hung vc, more or less, wheels or rollers, G G, which are, by means of washers `or otherwise, held suitable distances apart.
-In front of the rollers are suspended, from the fraun- F, Scrapers H, which are set oblique, to collect' the mortar for the action oi' the rollers. 1
Behindthe `rollers is suspended, from the frame F i a series of inclined shovels, 'I I, which scatter' and separate the mortar that was compressed by the rollers.
J J are rods or springs held against the faces oi the rollers, for the purpose of keeping the same clean, and preventing clogging.
The second sweep E extends over the entire bed, as shown, and has downward-projecting teeth, g g, which serve to stir and agitate the mortar. f
Both 'sweeps maybe operated by animal or other suitable power. y
After the mortar has been properly mixed and teinpered, it is collected in one heap by. means of a broad scraper, L, which is for that purpose secured to the front of the flame F'but which is not used during c the agitating process.
Having thus described my invent-ion,
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Lctters Patent, is-
1. The improved mixing-bed A, having the circular rim B, made in sections, and formed ci' upright staves, surrounded by hands b, as shown and described.
2. The bands b, having projections c, to fit into corresponding apertures in the bed,.combin ed with straps d, to retain the staves firmly in position. I
3. The combination of the toothed sweep E with the mixing-sweep D, each constructed, relatively .arranged, and operated as set forth.
4. A series of rollers, G, and spring chambers J J,
having an interval between them, combined with'oh liquc Scrapers Il and inclined shovels I, all constructed and relatively arranged as and for the purpose speci fied.
SETH WETMORE.
