` ".l'he Schedina referred to in these Letters P Vatent'azxd part o! the same To all 'whom it niay concern Be it known that I., MICHAEL C. MURPHY, of Boston, in the county of ASniolk and Stateof Massachusetts,'bave invented a new and useful Improvement in'Dust-proof Ventilating-\\Ti|ido\vs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof; which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing forming part oftbis specification.
My invention relates to thatclass of window devices which has for its object to ventilate cars and other apartments, and yet prevent the ingress of cnder's or or dust. Y Y
It consists in two improvements upon those now in use, namely: y
First, in Vconstructing the glass sashes with apertures at the bottom, and restingthem upon a sloping surface so as to discharge the dust and cnders.
Secoill sashes, a plain glass window to check the draught of air if too strong, (which is ollzen the case, particularly in winter.) l y Figure 1, is a transverse, and
Figure 2 a horizontal section of a Ventilating-window.
A A `are sides ofthe window-llame;
B, the bottom;
G, the sash'es; and
D, the ventilatng-glass strips.
d, in combining with a series of Ventilating- F-is a chamber in the lower-part of lthe window frame,.whose lower surface slopes.
Gr` is a plain glass window.
Each sash Q has downward edges, which terminate abruptly, 'and do not connect with the adjacent sasbcs. This leaves an aperture 'at the bottom of each glass strip D, which provides an i outlet for the dust and cnders into theA receiving and l discharging-chamber F. v
` Each sash() is constructed independently of the rest, so that it may be conveniently handled and readily removed. y y Having thus described all that is oiecessaryjtoa clear understanding of my invention,
, `What I claim as new, and desire to protect by L'ctters Patent, is- ,v'
1. The Ventilating-sashcs@provided with sloping bottoms andapertnres thereat, to allow ofthe escape of dust and cinders. i g
2. The combination, with sashes O, having apertures between thenrat the bottom. thereof, ofthe chamber F, provided with vsloping lower surface, to discharge the dust and ciuders. v
v3. The combination, with a series of ventilatingsashes, `C, of a glass window, G, located asdescribed, for regulating the 'cnn-ent of air admitted. y
MICHAEL O. MURPHY.
