UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIGE.
HARLAND D. HASSAR-D, OF NILE, NEW YORK.
UMBRELLA-HANGER.
Application filed February 2, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARLAND D. T'IASSARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nile, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Umbrella-Hanger, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates ers.
The object of the invention is to provide an article of this character, that shall be simple of construction and thus easy and cheap to manufacture, eflicient and durable in use, yet light in weight, and which without imparting an unsightly appearance to an umbrella, may be carried at all times by the tip thereof thus always to. be in position for use, and which shall be retained in operative and inoperative positions solely by the frictional contact between the hanger and the tip.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel umbrella hange hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts :-Figure 1 is a view in perspective, displaying the manner in which the hanger is employed in suspending an umbrella. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the blank from which the hanger is made. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a hanger after the same has been formed to shape. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the hanger.
The hanger is constructed from a blank 1 of resilient sheet metal, of any preferred character, one end of which is rounded and provided with an orifice 2. his blank is bent or rolled to form a split sleeve 3 and a loop l, constituting a suspending member, the crest 5 of which occupies the same plane as the proximate portion of the sleeve, whereby when the holder is positioned on the tip T of an umbrella, there will be no to umbrella hang- Specification of "Letters latent.

projecting part presented which would be objectionable not only from the stand point of appearance, but also from the liability of its catching upon garments and the like. The sleeve is designed to fit the tip by frictional engagement with sufficient tightness to sustain the weight of an umbrella when the same is suspended by the loop from a support, such as a nail N, as shown in Fig. l, but the contact between the parts will not be such as to present objectionable resist ance when the hanger is slipped back upon the tip to expose the ferrule.
It is designed that this hanger shall always be carried by the tip of the umbrella, so that it will be ready for use at all times, and owing to the fact that it is made of thin metal, and that it may be colored to agree with that of the tip of the umbrella, it will not present an objectionable addition to the umbrella from the stand point of appearance.
The device is exceedingly simple in construction and it will be found to fill a long felt want, inasmuch as an umbrella may readily be suspended from a nail, hook, or projection, and be allowed to drain, thus to preserve the notch and wire from rusting to a large degree.
I claim An umbrella hanger embodying, in a onepiece structure, a split sleeve and a looped suspension member in axial alinement with the sleeve and arranged to be slipped with the sleeve onto the tip of an umbrella with the loop encircling the tip, the sleeve being adapted to grip the tip with sufficient frictional tenacity to sustain the weight of the umbrella.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto ailixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
