The operation will vbe readily seen `to consist in the vibratory motion imparted to lever J by means of pul- .ley W, communicated through rods It and U to levers Y O S, and from thence to cross-heads E H and saw I, through pitmeu P T, these latter being pivoted, at one end, to said crossheads, and at the other-to said lever. The motion thus produced is steady and particularly easy, as the pitmen' P T4 allow the utmost freedom of motion -to levers O S, yet, at the same time, operate the saw el'ectually.
It will be seen that when the pitma'n T is in aperpendicular position, the pitman P is inclined, as shown, and m'ce versa. This arran gement prevents an y deadcenters, and, consequently, any strain on the saw.
