Description

LOUIS MILLER,'OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
Letters Patent No. 113,907, dated April 18, 1871.
v IMPROVEMENT IN SCROLL-SAWS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and :making part of the same.
Tov all whom it may. camere- Be it known that I, LOUIS MILLER, of Baltimore, in the countyof Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Scroll-Saws; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description vof the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which the gure represents a side elevation ot my machine;
This invention relates to that class of scroll-saws wherein 7the saw is operated by means of a strap passing over pulleys'or rollers and connecting the two ends of the saw; and
It consists in the combination of the pitman and strap, as shown and described.
In the drawing- A represents the saw-frame,` and B the table upon which the work is supported.
C is the saw, and
D is the strap which passes over the rollers or pulleys E F and connects the two ends of the saw. 'lhe strap is sufficiently strained to give to the saw the requisite tension.
G is a crank iiywheel at the end of the driving: shaft, which is actuated by a steam-engine or other power, and to which motion may be communicated by any usual and wellknown means.
The revolution of the crank-wheel G imparts a rc-V ciprocating motion to thepitman H, and the lower or free end of said pitman is secured to the strap D at the point d, as shown, by means of screws,pius, or
as above described I 'have found that the saw may beoperated with rapidity and ease, and that the strap becomes a durable and cheap means of operating the saw with uniform tension.
Having described my invention,
-In combination, the strap D secured to the reciprocating end of the pitman H, to operate as set forthv and described.
LOUIS MILLER.
