It will be observed that the operations performed by the rolls above described gradually draw in the metal toward one sidev of the hoop, and at the same time in passing around the master die and -into engagement with the vsuccessive rolls the metalI is bent longitudinally to the required curve.
In the construction illust-rated in Fig. 10, in place of the large wheel constituting the master4 die, a series of small rollsP, P, etc., are arranged in a curved path, a part of said rolls being in proximity to andcoperating with the rolls L, L, etc., while the intermediate rolls P2, P3, etc., produce the longitustruetion, the rolls P, P', etc., may be fashthe final roll of the series is of the form of the fashioned strip. A machinefor forming metal strips, comprising a traveling master die having -a uniform work surface provided with portions for fashioning thecentral portion of the strip laterally, a plurality ofrolls e ch having a work surface corresponding to ut a portion of the work surface of tlie master die and adapted to be progressively brought into engagement therewith whereby the intermediate portion of\the strip is progressively fashioned laterally, said rolls 'being arranged in-"relation to the master dientq progressively shape the strip longitudinally simultaneously with the lateral fashioni'ng.
